New System

Hi everyone, some time ago I posted about a new system that was being trialed at my hospital. blood taken by GP them telephone consultation a week later, this worked very well. I collected my hydroxy from local chemist. If bloods stay stable it means only one or two visits to the hospital a year, so keeping my fingers crossed.

I get all my bloods taken by my GP’s nurse. I then collect my results, 4 days later. It’s great when systems improve.

They are only trialing it at the moment, so I hope they keep it up as it is a great improvement.

Never ceases to amaze me just how busy the haemo. dept. at the hospital I attend gets - talk about under pressure. Sadly, I can't see them moving this part out to our G.P.'s surgery, which sounds a smart move, as they're currently in 'special measures' which I guess roughly translated means they can't handle what they're doing at the moment......

My haemo department is absolutely heaving, people standing around because there are no seats left. This system will greatly relive the pressure, just hope they find it helps and they continue with it

Yes I get bloods taken at my local GP every three months so when I have a consultation every six months the results are already there for doc - makes life easier for the Haemo department and I don’t have to hang around so long. I receive a letter with my counts the other times ,

It makes sense to do it that way, I wish my hospital would do it. It would save time and travelling, and the frustration of never being able to park in the hospital grounds and being charged a fortune when you do!!

Think all hospital parking is the same, I have a disabled badge so I stick it in the window and don't pay, suppose I'll get a ticket some time, but so far so good!!

I've got one too, but my hospital has now had a change of policy and everybody has to pay! As I go and have blood taken and then wait for the lab to process it before seeing the haem I'm there at least 2 hours - last time it was £5.40 to pay as the clinic was running late. I've got a senior bus pass but my knees won't let me walk to the bus stop and from the bus stop into the hospital. I sometimes get my husband tio drop me off then come back for me later.

Apart from when I was in the post SCT 'intensive' follow-up phase which lasted about 2yrs, my local haemo hospital has always used a system whereby they prescribe the tests to be done, I have these done at a local 'analysis clinic' and pick up the results on Internet later in the day and the results are sent to the haemo dépt. During the early phases of my illness when I was taking Pegasys the hospital would ring me if/when a change in dosage was necessary.

For my ongoing SCT follow-up, the tests are done in this fashion 1 week before my scheduled 3 monthly check-ups.

No more problems for parking, long waits to get a needle stuck in your arm, or excruciating long wait for administration at the hospital !!

Makes sense.
