Hello all u lovely people,

Do most of u have tooth extractions at your dentist or go to a hospital?

I have E.T. The dentist is wanting me to have a blood test.

Hi,

I have PV and had to have 2 teeth extracted a few years ago. I told my dentist I was taking clopidogrel and was worried about bleeding and she said ' don't worry, I will stop the bleeding' she was as good as her word and I had no problems.

I'm good thanks Aime, I hope you are getting on ok too. One of mine was a top front tooth which I broke on a piece of crackling and they couldn't save it. Hurrah for crowns and bridges.

I've had the exact same experience Judy. Many years ago I was also a Dental Nurse. Dentists and their support staff in the UK are highly trained and very capable of controlling blood loss after extraction. There really is no need to take up hospital appointment/surgery time. Mine - upper left 3 was removed with little blood loss. As long as you stop taking any blood thinning meds a few days before extraction there shouldn't be any problems.

I have ET - I had a rather nasty extraction last year at my dentist - I think it depends on the dentist to be honest a previous one (who was quite young) had said to me oh you will definitely need to go to hospital to have an extraction - I checked with my consultant who said no need, so I changed dentist to one who was more mature and experienced and when I told her my medical situation she said no problem at all - and there wasn't she was brilliant. I only had to stop aspirin for a few days before and after - I think with HU you just need to check with your consultant as to your current blood counts as to whether to stop those for couple of days. My only advice would be search around for a confident and experienced dentist. Hope it goes well for you.

I have just had a tooth taken out and my dentist was wonderful, kept me in the room till the bleeding stopped and checked the wound the following day, all was totally fine

I get mine at the dentist, always have, teeth for some reason seem to be rather prone to crack, old age, I said to my young dentist, "I've got high pain threshold, no problem!" ' I had practically been able to pull out a rotten tooth myself previously, then proceeded to practically jump out of the chair, when she touched one of my cranky teeth [laughs from both of us]. I am getting a major white filling one of my upper molar's today, even though registered disabled will have to pay circa. £100 for the 'pleasure'! Really looking forward to it!! OUCH!!

I am in the exact same position as you at present - awaiting an appointment from the local hospital to have a double molar extracted. Hoping to hear soon as eating is becoming uncomfortable - lots of luke warm drinks, scrambled eggs, soup etc - losing a little weight (always a bonus)

My very lovely young dentist said that the canal was too narrow for her to deal with. I would have to be given an anesthetic. She has taken out a previous tooth with no problem. No problem with bleeding afterwards. (My dental surgery have just been voted best team practise in the East!!)

This time I have been given a week long course of strong antibiotics from the dentist and I checked with my haem nurse if it was okay to take them with Hydroxycarbamide. I have E.T.

I was advised to have a blood test near to the date of the extraction if I hadn't already one. I have blood tests about every 2-3 months.

I have ET and amongst my list of drugs I am on Hydroxycarbamide, Amiodarone and even Riveroxaban but my dentist pulled a big molar a few weeks ago without a problem

I have had a few teeth out since I have been diagnosed with ET. I am taking Hydroxycarbonmide and Asprin. I've not had any problems and good healing times.

Not really relevant but I too have just been diagnosed with ET and started taking Hydroxy & Aspirin this week. Went for a re-filling yesterday and the dentist did it without anaesthetic as he promised it wouldn't hurt. It didn't ... almost. He wasn't happy putting more chemicals into my body. It was good not to have a numb mouth afterwards, but not so good that I couldn't eat for 2 hours and it was mid-day!
