Hi I am in the process of getting some holiday insurance and the options are Polycythemia or Polycythemia Rubra Vera. I have only been diagnosed a couple of months with ET and PV JAK2 positive. My question is is Polycythemia Vera the same as Polycythemia Rubra Vera...I'm very confused. Any info would be great. Jacqui

hughes f is right: polycythaemia without the vera is a condition without a genetic change, that can go away, think u can get it by smoking for example. if u have the jak mutation u r prv.

Just to add confusion I am JAK 2 negative and my haematologist said I had Polycythaemia Rubra Vera as I queried it for a critical illness claim. She said Polycythaemia is just short for PV.

As I understand it it is Secondary Polycythaemia that can go away ie smoking.
