With flu season coming , would you suggest getting flu shot? What do your doctors advise?

My consultant in France has advised me to take the shot inspite of my chronic GvHD

I am advised to take mine, our immune systems struggle so this can only help.

However its always good to seek confirmation before having any immunisations.

For example people with blood cancers are advised NOT to have shingles vaccine. So always seek advice.

My doctors recommend the flu shot for me. I have shown no immunity problems nor other health issues with my ET.

Hi lbailey. I posted the other other day about flu jab. I've just been diagnosed with ET and wondered does the condition effect the immune system. Since March I have had Laringitis twice of which one time lasted for 3 months and I took Scarlet Fever in June.

I am due to see my gp in couple of wks and will ask about the flu jab. Going by the replies you have had already to your post definitely seems to recommended. Thank goodness for this forum. It has been a godsend for me this last week.

Take care

Hi. I have had a flu jab for the last 3 years without problems. I have been requested to do a study with Guys this year on the effects of the flu jab on those with PV, so more info should be available soon....

The trial involves a blood test prior to the jab and another one three weeks later to chek the effects.

Hi, I had not taken it in years since I got very sick when I took it last. However, I was advised by my haemotologist to take it so I had it yesterday at my GP's clinic. The nurse administering it suggested that many patients of hers take 2 paracetamol after the jab and 2 before bed that night to counter any immediate effects of soreness or raspy throats etc. . I took them, as suggested, and feel just fine today.

hi there, had my flu shot 2 weeks ago with no problems at all. Better to have the shot than battle the flu, especially on Hydroxy as your immune system is already diminished. The flu shot these days are a dead virus so no problem.

Yes, flu jab very good idea I would not miss mine for anything. Agree with jilllydabrat that as virus is dead, cannot cause us any bad effect. That's as I understand it anyway.

I'm not a doctor, but last year the doctor in Spain thought it a good idea to have both the flu shot and the pneumonia shot. They gave both in the same arm at the same time. My arm swelled to three times it's size.

If anyone suggests that you get both together, I would not advise it.

I have had both in previous years at separate times and been fine.

Best regards

Marcia

Hello Osidge,

The two jabs I had last year caused the problem with my arm.

Perhaps because I had already had the pneumonia jab the year before was why I had a problem then.

I first one was in the UK and the second in Spain. I didn't think to tell them that I had had the jab the year before. Perhaps they should have asked though.

Thanks for the insight.

Kind regards

Marcia
