I have taken them for two years and they stopped my severe migraines but still get the chronic daily headaches I have had for ages. Good luck though. Maybe you struck lucky!

Hi I tried Topmirate starting on one pill and increasing the dose over weeks. I was ok on the small dose but as I increased I noticed that I had tingling in my finger ends so reduced then came off them. Good luck.

Hi Fluke73. That's great that they're working for you. I was on Topiramate for a month, only 10mg a day, and it made me so ill I had to come off them! Plus they didn't prevent any migraines, I got just as many! The side-effects were eye problems (I thought I was getting conjuntivitis, but it was the pills), depression, dizziness and complete loss of appetite (that was the only good bit, I lost a stone in a month and when I came off them, I went to Slimming World and lost another two stone, so am slim for the first time in years!). I'd love to find a preventer that actually prevents for me! Good luck, just keep an eye out for the side-effects, if they work for you, that's fab.

Glad to hear it! Topiramate is something that is recommended to a number of patients here at National Migraine Centre. Sometime it takes a while to reach the most effective dose and many experience mild side effects, but when it works well it can have a big impact on the frequency and intensity of migraine attacks. I hope it continues to be effective for you.
