I had my first occipital nerve block injection on Friday. It went fine, though the back of my head and neck are still feeling quite sore. Bearable and definitely worth it if it works. But since then I can't seem to stop crying! Nothing to do with the steroids I'm sure, I just feel really emotional and can't quite seem to pull it together. I'm not even sure what is wrong exactly, I think I'm worried about what will happen if it doesn't work, I don't know what to do next...

I can mostly cope with the pain as the triptans usually work, about once every 6 weeks I get a really awful 24 hour one where nothing at all helps. But this year I've been getting migraines at least once a week and I feel I can't cope with it carrying on like this. I've always had them, but never this bad - all started with awful flu in January. I know other people suffer much worse then I do, so in some ways I am lucky, just having a bad time at the moment. I'm still suffering with post viral fatigue and a few weeks ago while on holiday I tore the ligaments in my ankle and am on crutches. I could really do with some good luck!

Hi. I undersand how you feel, my migrianes got worse as well recently, I get a bad one every week, I even got two this week, I am now on sickness leave, I couldn't carry on working at all. I am sure the nerve block I had a few weeks ago brought on the weekly bad ones. When I say bad ones I am talking about agonising migraines with sickness, I used to get them only once or twice a year (but constant moderate migraines in between).

Maybe you are crying a lot becuase you feel relieved the nerve block has worked? I cry as well at least once a day, I am very emotional, probably because of the migraines.

Hopefully you will get better, give it a bit of time. Good luck.

Have spent the day trying not to burst into tears for no reason whatsoever, so understand what that feels like! (Sometimes it's part of my aura, and I have also seen the pretty lights before my eyes, so...)

Maybe it is a relief to you to have got the nerve block over & done with, another part of your migraine journey travelled. Sounds like you are really tired out (which I find nerve blocks and injections make worse for me).

Fingers crossed for you anyway.

Hi,

Thanks for your replies. Sorry to hear how badly you both suffer, but it does help to know there are others struggling emotionally with it all too. Teadrinker I think you're right, it is another significant part of the journey travelled and I think that was quite big to deal with. It is still a little early for me to know whether the injection has worked or not, as I get on average one a week, but so far so good so keeping my fingers firmly crossed... I have been getting back to a good routine of practising relaxation/self hypnosis too over the last couple of weeks, and it is starting to help me feel better.

Take care
