does anyone suffer from hemipligic migraines

Would like to know any treatment that helped as I have been taken off mine as they did not stop episodes three week apart now every 7-10 days

I have Hm and attacks can last up to 3 weeks in my case but everyone is diffrent.

I also suffer with hemiplegic migraine, although not every attack is a hemiplegic type. I take daily topirimate and Maxalt Melt with a diclofenac suppository for an attack which seemed to be the only treatment anyone could come up with but I was still getting regular attacks. Then the doctor decided that I shouldn't be taking HRT because of the risk of stroke with hemiplegic migraine (after 7 years!) and took me off it. The resulting symptoms where SO awful he put me on clonidine to help with the flushes - and although it hasn't done a lot to help with that, it HAS however seemed to have been the wonder drug for my migraine. (Whether in conjunction with the other drug or whether it would work on it's own I don't know - I daren't stop the other to find out!) Since getting the dose stabilised (I found I couldn't sleep on the standard 2 tabs morning and eve - I now take 1 am, 1 lunchtime and 1 teatime) I have only had one migraine which responded really well to the Maxalt and WASN'T an hemiplegic attack - just an ordinary type migraine. So, in conclusion - perhaps clonidine may be worth a try?

I have had chronic hemiplegic migraine, along with chronic cluster and SUNA, and think I should point out the following from the maxalt instruction leaflet, I was told by my neuro not to take triptans for hemiplegiac migraine

Do not take MAXALT if you:

• have or have had heart problems

• have or have had a stroke or a transient ischemic attack (TIA)

• have or have had blood vessel problems including ischemic bowel disease

• have uncontrolled high blood pressure

• have taken other Triptan medicines in the last 24 hours

• have taken ergot-containing medicines in the last 24 hours

• have hemiplegic or basilar migraines

• take monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor or have taken a MAO inhibitor within the last 2 weeks

• are allergic to rizatriptan benzoate or any of the ingredients in MAXALT. See the end of this

leaflet for a complete list of ingredients in MAXALT

Hi I have H/M and SUNCT and chronic daily headaches,also fibro. So one drug may help one thing and kick off another,I find pain killers that I take for my fibro sets my H/M off and others set my Sunct .Ive come to the end of the road drug wise for my Sunct at the mo but think possative always something m

new comimng out..I find if one of my migraines kicks off it seems to kick the other one off .I find the worst thing to kick everything off is stress .

have been getting negitive comments from close family and friends as they do not understand .often been told you cant have migraine you dont have headaches .

My H/M always hits my left side, sometime I get a warning other times I dont.when it hits I can feel myself looseing the leftside of my body sometimes but sometimes its just my arm other times its my arm,leg face ,its not nice but hey as long as you enjoy the good days it helps you get though the bad x x

I have hemiplegic migraines for about 15 days a month on my right side. I also have chronic cluster headaches. I take topamax, epilim, and gabapentin for the migraines. The gabapentin seems to work best I am about to start pizotifen and nortriptyline as well. I totally loose my speech and my right hand and arm goes totally limp. My conciousness level is not good during an attack and I sometimes black out totally. I do have GON (greater occipital nerve) injections and have great days after those. So although mine are not good I would recommend gabapentin and GON injections if you can get them. Good luck.
