Anyone see the channel 5 program about an operation to cure migraine? Do they snip the nerves that cause the pain? Anyone had it?

I saw a docu about an implant. It was 3 people living with chronic pain and only one of them was a man with migraine. The implant was quite large and in the chest. Id love a link to the show u mean tho if it’s different.

I haven't seen the programme so don't know if it's the same thing that I'm doing but I'm in the process of having a Botox trial at The Migraine Surgery Centre with a view to having an operation if successful. I have had 2 injections into the eyebrow and 1 at the back of the neck to paralyse certain muscles to prevent them pressing on inflamed blood vessels and nerves.

If this works after an 8 week trial then they can replicate the procedure surgically by removing the muscles and decompress the nerve.

I go to Banbury but I think they have a clinic in London and Berlin also.

I'll keep people posted how I get on.

Oh wow amazing! Can anyone else get on the trial? I say this as I recover from a two day migraine in bed and feel so ill. I do hope it goes well for you

Hi. Just wondering if the professor uses a Doppler ultrasound machine as guidance as to where to inject the Botox? Thank you. Susan

Hi there. This is not a trial in the sense you mean. It's available for all to try, but is not on the NHS in the UK. It's a private treatment. The procedure is not suitable for everyone. It depends on the type of problem you have. The first stage is a questionnaire which you can full in online. If the professor feels that he might be able to help you, his secretary will contact you to ask if you would like an appointment. It's £100 for a consultation but if suitable, you could be offered Botox and the consultation fee is waived. It's not cheap. £800 if you need both sides doing and both in the eyebrow area and back of head. Perhaps cheaper if you need less jabs. You then keep a diary for 8 weeks to see if things improve. If you see a good improvement you would be offered an operation. They only do it if there is a substantial chance of success. You also have to be prepared to come off triptans as they interfere with the Botox, but you can do this gradually over the 8 weeks. All the information is on The Migraine Surgery website. Professor Muellberger is a great bloke. I only hope it works for me.

Good luck.
