'Tens' unit

Hi brave people, I have just joined this forum and sympathise with those that can't get some relief. The blood to my brain was blocked off on one side for a few hours 12 years ago (Carotid Artery dissection) then 2 years later had meningitis, so my poor brain has had a bit of a bashing. I never had headaches at all prior to these events but have had many migraines since. I am 70 years old. I have been on Amitriptyline since then and Rizatriptan (Maxalt), self administered Oxycodone and quite a few ED visits for Morphine etc. In the last 6 months or so migraines got much worse and almost an everyday event. You know how debilitating and crushed it makes you feel. I had been seeing reports on the Cefaly 'tens' unit and thought it may be of benefit but the price and also only being available on prescription stopped me obtaining one. Recently here in Australia it was suddenly available without prescription and as my head was having such a huge impact on my everyday life I decided to buy one with some trepidation, however I am REALLY impressed ! I'm not suggesting everyone buys one as our migraines are all so different but for me it gave instant relief after about the fourth time, and has given me about 2 weeks relief so far, I know my head is still not right as I get the migraine hangover some days but other days I can think clearly ! Just thought this may be of some value to anyone considering this form of treatment. The ongoing costs are reasonable but not cheap, for me I'm happy I bought it. I hope you get some rest from this horrible affliction. Bye for now, John.

Thank you for your detailed post. I've wondered about trying the Cefaly device. I found your post really helpful and I'm sure others will too. I might just give it a try

I tried Cefaly and it didn’t work for me unfortunately. Good thing I had a refund back as it is expensive.

I am on almotriptan 12.5mg and 900mg aspirin when I have an attack and that it is the only thing that Helps. I tried agopunture, I am careful with what I eat and drink always have 2 L of water a day and I am more for a holistic way to fight this monster but does not matter what I do I still suffer from it and is very debilitating. Depressing and you really feel like giving up after many years of battling. I am sorry I am very low today after an attack that kept me off work again and locked in a dark room.

It is available for purchase in the UK and I have considered whether it is worth the money. I might give it a go!
