I was happy that in 2019 i only got 2 migraines

But so far this year alone i got 2 , and today it was really intense with really bad feeling of derelization after the tingling in my face and tongue, feeling like im not aware of my surroundings and a dream like feeling took over, light and sounds were so overwhelming and weirded me out , sat in a dark room all day

This migraine for some reason scared me mire than normal, there wasnt any new symptoms but i just felt really weird like im in a foggy dream like feeling and just cant focus on words and talking and hearing stuff, i was thinking its a stroke AND IM 18!!

Im really tired of this its becoming more frequent and i also feel its more severe, any tips are appreciated

My triggers usually involve bright lights but sometimes i wake up with a migraine so not sure what to do

Hi sweet Kevin,

Please read the common symptoms of anxiety here:

nopanic.org.uk/anxiety-symp...

(You will see that your recent experience is all part of your anxiety

Important to know>

Feelings of un-reality are NOT as unusual as you may think.

Some parts of the body are more sensitive to these than others which is why different people have different symptoms. It might be reassuring to know that all anxiety symptoms can be explained by the release of hormones in the system, incorrect breathing...

Although these symptoms are unpleasant they will not harm us. <3

Hugs 'n Prayers

I appreciate the feedback but i do get migraines every now and then since i was in my early teens before my anxiety dislrder , so its not anxiety , its becoming more frequent thats my concern ;), the derealization is due to the light and sound sensitivity , i was feeling this big fog because i couldnt see properly and i had a very bad headache

Hi Kev,

Any kind of pain or unexplained discomfort could result in anxiety or panic for those of us who deal with ocd or overthinking. Believe me, son. I've had such excessive fears for 70 years.

It's been better for the last 2-3 years because I finally understand it.

My heart goes out to you...but you're not alone.

My 56 year old son has suffered with extreme ocd since he was 7 yrs old

and my son who's 58 is bipolar for many years. Just a very few "personal" examples.

Repeat this : "I will be ok " :)

Im not really sure youre understanding what im saying, im saying that i struggled with migraines before my anxiety started, eversince i was in my early teens , and i went to doctors and i was diagnosed, and my mom had them so its most likely genetics, and i wasnt anxious or worried when i get them , i sometimes go to sleep and wake up with a migraine , and they sometimes happen after using screens and bright lights , the symptoms resemble migrianes 100%

So thank you for the advice ;) but not everything is due to anxiety ..thats why i put it on this community because i want people who are more knowledgable about migraines

But you are right that so many things are anxiety based, sometimes anxiety worsens my migraines whenever i get them, its just that this is something that i dealt with prior to anxiety , maybe due to genetics or other environmental factors ..thats why im hoping someone here has an answer but apparently no one does haha

Hi Kevin160.

I'm really sorry to hear that you have had that experience! It can be very fustrating when you are doing well and you think you are getting better then all of a sudden a migraine comes.

It is very discouraging and frightening when you have symptoms like you described. It has happened to me too. But the doctors ( even a nerologist) never finds anything on brain MRIs.

I actually had a migraine one where I actually was slurring and felt like it was a dream so I know from personal experience where you are coming from.

For me the doctors never helped. I wear glasses from theraspecs.com for my light sensitivity that I have all the time and it has helped.

Anyways for me the biggest brake through for me as far as finding the cause of my migraine is from my physical therapist. She explained explained what was happening and it helped me to work out a plan with the doctors.

Doctors says that migraines are a disease but they are often a symptom that there is something else wrong physically.

I hope you feel better! Don't be discouraged.. more good days ahead!

Thank you so much, im really not sure if its another phsycial problem, i go to regular doctors appointments, blood tests , a year an a half ago i got a ct scan for my brain and it was all good , i went to a heart and lung doctor for my shortness of breath and x rays were fine, gastrologist also cleared me a few months back , ear nose and throat a few momths back said all is good

It could be genetic my mom used to get them alot , my forst one started in school in 8 grade like 5 or 6 years ago , it was very mild, barely a headache just tunnel vision that made me freak out but it was ok, then every few months i started getting it and 2 years ago it started to come with numbness and bad headache and tingling , and one time it was really bad and i was slurring, my triggers were light brightness probably i noticed it plays a factor but i dont know what to do, even when i limit it i still get them, and its hard to because of school, work ,, phoness, laptops, screens , hangouts with friends, its hard to avoid technology all together

Hi Kevin. It sounds like you are experiencing complex migraines. I have them too. A nerologist may be a help for you. Also you may want to ask for a neck MRI. Cause migraines have alot to do with the neck too. Also try be cautious about medication for ur migraines. They can be helpful but also causes rebound headaches which you maybe have experience with. Most phones and computers have a blue light filter on it to help with the lightening. If it doesn't they have an app you can download. It is so worth it. I always have my phone low anyways. Also wearing a bucket hat has helped me with being in environments with heavy lightning. Also you could try the "my pillow" as seen on TV it really helped me.

Anyways take care

Thank you so so much for these ideas, i do have my screens on night mode and blue light mode and i think it helps a bit

Just a question, im not really sure what you meant with the neck having to do with the migraines?

love4godsword100 profile image

Hi Kevin.

If there is something wrong with the neck the pain can ride up into your head. The neck is connected to the head. The nerves in your neck can tighten and spasm and go up into your head. And if you are getting numbness it may be a result of an issue in your spine. I use moist heat on my neck when I have a migraine and it helps some. Also I use peppermint oil on a warm wet face cloth and place on my forehead and it helps. But it can burn so it is to be used with care. Anyways you may not have any issues with your neck but you never know. Actually when I went to physical therapy for my migraines they actually massage your neck and I can't say it took away my migraines me but it helped.

Good luck Kevin! Do what is good for you! I'm just sharing what helped me.

Take care!

I do have a few problems with my back and neck, like pain wise because im jot very athletic and probably due to the fact that im 6’1 and text neck and sitting all day perhaps . I dont know but i always gets back and neck pain so if its connected, it could be a factor , i will try to see if i can do anything about it

Hi Kevin,

Yeah there are a bunch of different reasons why people get migraines. Posture can play a part in it so I have been told. I wish you luck. I know for me I had to do alot of research on different things because the doctors did not seem to suggest anything but medicine. Which in the long run made me worse off. Let me know if you need anything. And if you find something that helps please share.

I actually got another migraine today, i was cleaning and arranging my room so i slept in the living room and it was a bad nights sleep, and i woke up a couple hours later had this horrible aura migraine but i didnt get any numbness or speech, memory problems, felt a bit better than the last migraine but felt really scared that i got them basically less than two weeks apart i usually get them months apart , i learned that sleep and lights trigger it the most while sometimes i felt it could be causd by dehydration and some foods like sweets and also not eating as welll, so im going to put a plan to get a fixed sleep schedule and to avoid bright lights and try my best to limit any triggers and go to neorologist because this is scary i dont want to suddenly go blind driving on a highway, or during an exam, or a special event or occasion that my biggest problem and fear

Hi Kevin! I have been where are you! Scared to death because of a migraine! Every migraine can feel alitle different. Glad you didn't get the numbness. That is just miserable. Nerologist is a great place to start. I use to get migraines 3 times a week it was awful. How many days does your migraine last and what helps it go away?

Now it always starts with a tony blind spot and i instantly know, the aura gets bogger and in minutes i cant see , barely anything, it stays like this for about an hour or less then the tingling and numbness usually start , one time it was a bit severe i had slurred speech and my memory and concentration were gone..

Then i get this dull but sometimes very intense pain in one side of my face around my eye area and the pain usuallly lasts until i get back to sleep, but sometimes it stays the following day

In terms of what i do , i tend to sit in dark rooms when i get it, it relaxes me and i feel as a result when im relaxed it doesnt hurt as much and the vision gets back to normal , or it just feels nice becayse i get light and sound sensitivity i feel very weird

And now im trying to limit triggers in order to stop getting them as frequent, hydrate more, limit screen time , sleep better and fixed sleep schedule ..less sweets , more exercise , i feel these will balance me more and help me reduce the number of migraine attacks

Hi Kevin.

It is good that sleeping helps the migraine go away. I wish it were that easy for me. I do not get the blind was you are taking about. But I understand what you mean about not being able to think. I have had to work 8 he shifts with a migraine it is not easy. Just have to keep positive. So I think you may have Ocular migraines. That's when you can get the blindness you were talking about.im glad you have figured out your triggers. I hope a nerologist can help you. When I first went to a nerologist.. I had to wait a long time but once I was a patient I could get an appointment slot quicker. So basically at the nerologist they talk to you and do a nero exam and then they prescribe medication. You usually have to try a lot of them to find the right one for you.

I get light and sound sensitivity too 24/7. It's bad but my new glasses for light sensitivity helps like 95 present. It's nice because it is awful you go somewhere and just dread the lights. Or when you go somewhere and you have to leave because the lights are too bright.

I have blackout curtains in my room and use a night table lamp when the overhead light is too much. Plus my bedroom overhead light has a dimmer switch. You learn to do things without much light.

Advice, once this pandemic starts to subsode in the upcoming weeks and im no longer locked up i will go to a neurologist and get this sorted out
