Hemiplegic Migraines, Botox, NHS..

Hi everyone, been a while..

I’m currently on a botox treatment hold. As i currently pay for my 3 monthly treatment privately i wanted to see if the NHS would take me on for my treatment. My last botox treatment was back in June and I’m now waiting until December to have my next set, I’m really scared because i havnt been without the injections for 18 months now and they have had a really good effect on my Hemiplegic Migraines. The NHS told me that to meet thier criteria for them to take me on they have to see my at my worst which isn’t ideal, hence why I’m now having any treatment this month as i usually would. Has anyone on here found that when they stopped having botox that the Migraines didn’t return or did they come back straight away? I’m terrified that I’m just going to go back to how i was at the beginning. And what experience has anyone had with Triptans?

I found an increase in migraine after having to delay injections by four weeks so at week 16 rather than 12. My understanding is that the migraines should come back sadly. From my previous experience the national migraine centre charged 135 pound if you've a national insurance number for Botox injections. I know you'd have to pay for travel+Botox every 12 weeks but would that be achievable? Good luck

I currently pay 550 every 3 months for my injections which is why I’m waiting on the nhs to take me on for them, just so long winded and they want to see me at my worst before they take me on! Nightmare

My migraines have come back both times I've had to stop botox for pregnancies. I am only aloud 6 triptan days a month and two days with normal painkillers to prevent medication over use migraines. If they think you are taking too many triptan/painkillers they won't give you botox.

My head knows when I am due for my Botox shots. For me I have to go quarterly without delay if not, the migraines come on stronger. I skipped a month early this year, and it was disastrous. I really hope you can continue with the quarterly schedule...

I am due for my next round next Tuesday, I plan to keep my appointment.

Best of luck to you.
