Fed up of pain!!

I have suffered with migraines since i was 15 years old. Im now 35 and they are getting worse. I have weekly headaches and occasionally have a few days headache free. I am on Topiramate to help them and take daily magnesium. I monitor my diet and avoid foods etc that set it off. I've lost track of how much time i have had to have off work and at one point feared losing my job. I wish there was some magic cure and i wish more than anything that people who do not suffer from migraines understood more how hard it is to fuction when your in pain!

Awe Shellsbelles 😢 it's just brutal 😣. My heads banging everyday! I can't remember what it's like not to have pain in my head.

I would love to gift a migraine to a chosen few, just to help them understand.

Take it easy and stay hydrated 😘

To be in pain everyday is awful Cally01. Yes wouldn't it be lovely if others understood what it feels like.

Look after yourself. x

Have you tried taking preventive medication, so they stop or diminish? Or have you only tried medication to control them once they hit? I couldn't take anything from the triptan family to control them, as that gave me bad chest pain. Since I had them every day when I turned 50 ( hormonal, had never had them before)... I had lost 10 pounds in 6 weeks of living on Perrier water and soda crackers, So had to find something fast. I was in bed all day with ice all over my head; excruciating pain!! My family doctor found a cocktail that worked for me, after 3 months of trial and error. I take 20 mg. of propranolol in morning and 10 mg. of amitriptyline at 21:00. Works great! I live in Canada. I had an apt. at the migraine clinic, but it took 14 months before I could get in!! By that time my doctor had found something that worked. Hope this helps. Good luck and stay optimistic and keep trying new medications until you find the right one. Don't despair, you will find something! I understand your pain.

A few of the triptans made me sick. The Topiramate is ment to prevent them but i think isn't working to well. Sadly i know of no migraine clinics in the Midlands UK that i can go to. I am going to return to see my Neurologist for more help as I can't take much more.x

I'm in Leeds and the migraine place (they call it complex headaches) IS the neurologist so may be the same for you. Hope waiting list not 20 weeks like mine. I tried topiramate and had horrific nightmares - been on gabapentin for 2 years with good effect but migraines now coming back through every other day. Tried everything else available - sumatriptan for me - could you take ant-sickness with it? Buccal good. I hope you find something soon.

It seems hat reading this web site and all the problems that people face, one of the worse seems to be Migraines. I have lived and worked overseas for most of my life. It was in fact only a matter of time after arrival in Hong Kong in 1974, that I started to get Migraine headaches, which although not of the blinding, must draw the curtains, and get under the blanket type, was never the less irritating. Eventually I was able to use a medicine which managed the problem. At times I was getting one or two a week, and at the time it was suggested that I was allergic to Monosodium Glutamate (MSG), and tried to avoid food which had this additive, however Chinese food, especially at restaurants, was normally well laced. So for the next 30 years I endured the problem, hoping one day it would go away. In 2007 I returned from a round world cruise and found that I was 8 kilos heavier than when I started. So I decided that this needed to be rectified. I literally changed my diet and reduced my food intake. I also totally cut out Honey from my diet as I had been using that as a sugar replacement since first arriving in Hong Kong in 1974, and a lot of it. As a result, I found much to my amazement that the Migraines stopped. I tested that by using Honey on different occasions and each time, back came the Migraine. So I then decided, much as I enjoyed Honey, Migraines needed to go, so cut it from my diet completely, and now ten years later, I no longer suffer from Migraines. Good luck and I hope that you are able to find the root cause of the problem.
