Botox anyone?

I have been considering having the daith done, but my Dr. wants me to have botox in my scalp. Is there anyone doing both? By the way, I am new here. Please help.

Hi sorry you're suffering. I don't have the piercing but I have had 2 rounds of botox. Immediately my neck and shoulders relaxed. No headaches for 11 days then a week or 2 of quite bad headaches but since then (Oct 16) the headaches I get are much milder I can go a week or two without any at all. Often soluble aspirin is enough to stop a headache they are so mild.

I'd say give botox a go. It's not for everyone but after 37 years of chronic migraine it's making a difference to my life. I'm a bit more hopeful now. Good luck xx

I think I am going to try the daith first then the Botox if it doesn't help. The daith will just be another piercing. I think I will have both sides done. The Botox will be covered by insurance. Good luck to you also and God bless you!!

I had the daith piercing done 18 months ago. It certainly helped me with the severity though still get almost daily mild to moderate pain

I have been hearing that alot!! People are saying the combination of the two seems to be their best bet. One helping with the severity and the other does away with them all together. So happy to hear their is relief in sight.

Glad to hear that! I think I am going to try and get the faith first then go to Botox!

Had daith and 2 rounds of botox, lost the daith during an op but i think it helped a little. Botox didn't help but my migraines were discovered to be coming from my jaw mainly and botox into my jaw is helping 👍

I tried the daith & cant tell any difference. Peppermint oil applied to the hairline seems to help me though.

Sorry to hear that you had no luck with the daith. Alot of people do. Happy something is working for you! Good luck!!

I have the daith and i think it's helped a bit but i suffer from cluster headaches rather than migraine, i know someone who has hardly had a migraine since having it. I would say for £20 it's worth a try and you get a cool piercing anyway! As for botox I'm on my second round, I have definitely found my headaches are less frequent but still as severe when they come. Still an improvement though.

Good luck

I am sorry to hear that so far the Botox hasn't done away with your headaches. For most people, it seems to. Maybe as you get more of them your headaches will be less frequent and less severe!! Good luck to you also and God bless you!!

Thankyou this is what I'm hoping, the frequency is less so hoping the pain follows soon! Hope you find what works for your migraines soon.

I have hemipligic migraines, neuralgia and cluster headaches and botox is amazing.

It makes the frequency and the pain less with each round. I'm now on my 3rd round and I've struggle since I was 15 - I'm now 38. It's literally changed my life. I can do things again. Plan stuff go out with the kids and not spend all my time curled up in dark rooms :b

Hi ,just an idea ,might be worth trying. Magnesium citrate (holland+barretts) 200 mg. Daily .its not cheap but works by relaxing all the neck muscles.you can take it quite safely .if it works for you and you stay on it you may need a lbit of copper to balance things out. All the best Elfie ps.i take mine later in the day with food.

Hi Elfie. I was told magnesium chelated was the one to take, that and vitamin B2 . I think the chelated absorbed easier. That's what I was told anyway

Hello Elfie1! Thanks for the insight! Actually Magnesium is the first thing my Neurologist tried with me with no luck. But might be helpful for others.😀

Can I ask for those of you that have had the Botox can you come off your regular medications ? I am really struggling to function normally my memory is terrible, struggle to speak properly at times and thought processes are very slow. I am a senior nurse working in busy medical clinics and finding it difficult to do my job.

I've had migraine since age 5, and am now 65. Now they are daily with out daily triptans.

I had Botox treatment about 10 years ago, 3 rounds. The first round was in the summer which is a migraine trigger for me with heat and sun-- I live in Northern California. It was miraculous! No headache for 3 months and no drugs. Sun and heat, no worries.

Then the headaches started coming back so I had a second round. I would lie on the table holding the nurse's hand crying while the shots were administered. Again, migraine free and clear, but this time the window of freedom closed after two months, so back for round 3.

After the 3rd round the migraines returned in a month with a vengeance. I could not get rid of the brutal headache that came back every 8 to 12 hours. All I could do was take triptans, Initrex/ Sumatriptan, at that time. That lasted a month.

So I do not take Botox anymore although my neurologist keeps pushing it. He is called the "Botox Doctor" around here as he was a pioneer in the field using it for migraine. His daughter owns a beauty/skin care clinic in connecting office. He claims none of his 600 patients ever had a diminished quality of pain relief or rebound effect with Botox as I did-- which I don't believe because I've read many accounts of people who experience similar paths.

Right now I take two Naratriptan/ Amerge a day and am trying to wean down to one. Sometimes it is possible. I eat no sugar whatsoever, no food additives, no alcohol, no chocolate sweetened or not, no gluten, try to get to bed by 10 or 11 latest, arise at 6:30 or 7, and am trying to add back in 40 minutes of sitting meditation daily. I do 30 minutes of yoga every day as well.

There is a Facebook group called, " Migraineurs Who Want to be Cured", Dr. Angela Stanton, that has 100's of accounts of people who are living migraine-free, and drug-free, from following a strict diet similar to Ketogenic eating. I am preparing to try it but am vegetarian and their prescribed diet is heavy on the meat. No carbs. So baby steps in desperation.

It is incredibly helpful to be part of this group. Blessings and prayers to all afflicted migraineurs. 🌸🌸💜🌸🌸

I have both done. I had my daith done on both sides. The combination does seem to help. The daith lessens the pain intensity of the migraines and the Botox helps with the frequency of having them. I still get them and when I do they are not fun but more manageable since doing these both. I was a 10 and bed ridden before the daith now I am about a 4 or 5. Good luck to you.
