My boyfriend is 18 and has recently been waking up every morning with severe headaches hes complaining his eyes hurt, mainly his left, hes always red hot and restless. He's booked in for an eye test but had one not too long ago and has perfect sight. The only way he can describe it is like being hungover all day. Any help would be great.

hello knebby1997, i'm 20 and i always have a headache on the right side of my head and behind my right eye. i'm convinced its a pinched nerve as it stems from my back. if he's having back or neck problems that could be causing the problem its best to sort the problem from its core by seeing a chiropractor. I've been to the doctors twice now and to be honest they're pretty useless with headaches.

but if he's not having neck or back ache then i couldn't tell you i'm just talking from experience.

hope this helps...

Hi there, As I mentioned to Knebby, try cutting out wheat completely. It is known to irritate the joints. I am just trying anything!

Sounds like my symptoms to a tee. Agitated, hot and restless then waking up with the usual 5am headache which was lasting sometimes all day depending whether I took a sumatriptan or not, only for the cycle to start again the next morning. I would say about 4/5 days a week. I tried giving up all known triggers, accupuncture, daily preventative drugs and of course the trusty Triptans ( which are not supposed to take more than 2 a week of) two and a half weeks ago I opted for the daith piercing and it has worked for me. I have suffered for years and this seems to have been the only thing that has so far given me any relief. Google it, research it and if you do go down that route all he has to lose is the £30 cost. Good luck

thank you

Hi toxin. I just went into our local piercer and asked did he do daith piercing. He immediately said " for migraine" I think most have heard of the benefits for migraine. He also told me they were doing clinical trials in America because so many had found it helps. He did say it works for some people so looks like I'm one of those lucky ones. Can't believe I have gone nearly 3 weeks with only 2 minor headaches which was on both occasions after a couple of vodkas the night before. Good luck, nothing to look se apart from the £30 cost. Please let me know how you get on if you decide to have it done

Hi Babs1234 thank you for letting me know, I am just waiting for some feverfew and magnesium in to arrive in the post, I ordered it last week so was going to give this a try first. I have been prescribed topiromate but am not keen to use it.

Last night I woke with a headache and pinched my ear where the piercing would go and it did seem to help so I will look into getting it done. Had a look on You tube yesterday and there's a lady from America whose recently had it done and seems to think its helping.

Glad to hear that its working for you, hope it continues, thanks again for your help

Hi . Just found out there was someone on good morning last Friday discussing the daith piercing and she said it had worked for her. Wish I'd seen it .im taking magnesium too. Going to see if I can get the episode up

Hi Babs1234 have found the episode

itv.com/hub/this-morning/1a...

You need to go to about 1.02 to find the part of the programme where they talk about it.

My feverfew and magnesium came yesterday so have started to take those, drank red wine last night and feel OK today, was hoping the magnesium would help with sleep as well as i usually get to sleep easily but wake at around 3-4 am every night. Last night for some reason I couldn't get to sleep but then woke at 7am. Obviously only had one tablet so its too early to tell whether they will have any affect.

Yes managed to find it. Made me laughter the doctor saying there's no medical evidence... Why don't they just try and get some statistics maybe that would help. There's no medical evidence why accupunture works on people but who cares so long as it works. Funny I had a bad nights sleep last night but I very rarely sleep through the night without waking. My piercing came out last name get but I managed to put it back in and went to the piercer this morning for him to put the little ball back on. He told me a lady had come in as she had been somewhere else to have the daith piercing and it wasn't working, he showed me a photo of it and it had been done in totally the wrong place and he had to redo it for her. Very important where it is pierced so if you get it done make sure the guy knows where it's supposed to go. Speak soon

Hi Babs glad you have found it ok, thanks for telling us about it. It is always the same with alternative medicines, doctors are always very wary.

Yes I did wonder whether anywhere near me ( I am out in the sticks) would know exactly where the piercing needs to be, don't want to end up having it done twice or finding it doesn't work simply because the person performing the piercing didn't know what they were doing.

Do you know which ear it needs to be or does it not matter?

I would have tried to find somewhere straightaway if I hadn't bought the feverfew, now i have got that it makes sense to see if it works, although i am taking a lot of vitamin and minerals now.

Tonight I am going to try cheese to see what happens, I had to give up dairy but really miss butter, cheese and cream especially with Christmas coming up, I might find the rash I get with being coeliac flares up with the dairy but its worth trying again just to see x

Hi. I had mine done on the left ear as that is my migraine side. If it centre or both sides you can have both ears done ...one at a time. I googled for my nearest piercer and was just lucky I chose one who knew about it so would definitely suggest you ring first and ask them about it.. Maybe take the picture in but I think most now have heard about it. It is a deep piercing and very close to the head but really it wasn't that painful. Good luck and let me know how you get on. I also take lots of different minerals etc. ...ginger, magnesium, glucosamine, cod liver oil. I will still carry on with them as it won't do any harm.

Hi these are also my symptoms, not only do my eyes feel strained but I have to wear glasses to look at the computer screen and they feel so heavy and I end up having to rest them on a finger to take the pressure off.

I had a scan of my eyes to check that there wasn't anything wrong with them. I also often feel sickly and the only relief is to take sumatriptan which takes away the headache. I have had these symptoms for years and discovered 5 years ago I have coeliac disease. Don't know whether it is connected to the headaches as i still have them despite being gluten and dairy free but just thought i would mention it. Hope you find a solution as I know how awful it is to have the headaches.

Personally I swear by the Magnesium and Feverfew.

With regards to waking up in the early hours with a Migraine, this happens as the sugar levels drop quickly during the night. If you have something high protein before you go to bed your sugar levels will drop slower. If you do wake up with a Migraine, I find taking 800mg of Ibuprofen with a sugary fizzy drink really helps and works very quick. It fizz makes the Ibuprofen dissolve quicker and the sugary fizzy drink brings your sugar levels up.

Hi Pjh42 just seen your post, the feverfew and magnesium seem to be helping with the headaches so far but have only been taking them a couple of days so its too early to tell, I am just really hoping that it works, thanks for the advise on the sleep issue

I really sympathise. I get blinding headaches that last for 3 days, no matter how many painkillers I take. I have found recently that if I cut out wheat completely, I get headaches less often. May be worth a try.
