I am 42 and suffered from migraines as long as I can remember. My doc currently has me on 20mg of amatriptalyne a night and naramig for when my migraines become too much to handle. I can't say the amatrip is helping much, but I sought help privately and after a scan was told I could have an internal mole ??!!??? And the fact I had an epidural with my son could be the problem. But was not offered any real solutions. I seem to constantly have a headache which for about 12 days a month spirals out of control and into a migraine. I think there is a link between my monthly cycle but my doc assures me that can't be the case, but I have years of evidence.

I try not to let it affect my life too much but often it is impossible to really function.

Just thought I would introduce myself to the site before I start reading all the posts x

Your doc seems incompetent to treat headaches and migraines. There is a very well proven link between hormones, the menstrual cycle and headaches. I was on amitrtiptyline but for me it only worked above 75mg pet day. At that point the side effects were too pronounced.

I have seen a number of headache specialists and none of them have suggested a link with epidurals. I have had two and cannot see how they would have caused my migraines. It is mostly genetic.

hi Emma, thanks for getting back to me, i agree with you about my doc, and infact until i joined the site i didn't realise other women where suffering like i was, i have shown him my diary for the last 5 years!

Yeah the private doc suggested that there was a link between epidural and migraine, but never went any further into it, or the "internal mole" side of things, just said there was nothing that could be done about that :(

I don't know that this mysterious mole is to blame. I have had 2 brain scans & they've found a small but harmless brain tumour. It isn't causing me any harm and it isn't causing the migraines (both my parents get them, and mine seem connected to neck problems, chronic pain in my face, and changes in the seasons, bright lights, motion sickness.....the list goes on). It seems they feel obliged to tell you about the things they find on brain scans, but of course that's not always very helpful.

Of course there is a link.!!...i too had what is referred to as menstrual migraine for all the years up until menopause. One thing i pass on to you is to take 2 aleve 2 days befote you are due to start..or a triptan if u have a script. I am also new to this forum and don't spend alot of time staring at screens because it gives me headaches...good luck and also a book called THe migraine brain had many helpful suggestions...God bless.
