My Migraine wakes me up at 3 or 4 in the morning

Have suffered from migraine on and off since I was 40 (12 years ago) and have been able to manage them with traditional medication, but just recently they've changed - I go to bed feeling fine and then bam around 3am or 4am I'm awake with a full blown Migraine - any suggestions?

I wake up with them too. Neurologist has advised me to take sumatriptan injections only when I wake with them as they get into system quicker...still feel really groggy and tired afterwards so have to shut myself away in dark room till they go. Tend to find they are much worse when wake with them as triptan takes longer to get into system with being further into the migraine if that makes sense. Hope you get yours sorted out better than mine!

I take triptans and go back to bed...usually gets rid of the pain but difficult to work that day :(

I'd generally do the same as Ceedee but I've also found that sleeping slightly upright can help to stop them happening, though that could be because I get a combination of sinus and migraine so it may be stopping the sinus side of things more than the migraine.

Its really irritating to be woken up by a migraine when really you just want to sleep it off but i think it is quite common. Bit like the hospital joke about being woken up to take a sleeping tablet :)

This is a typical time for me, so I have Triptans in my bedside table with a fresh bottle of h2o every night......I found that the headache is well underway when it wakes me and I am usually too ill to get to my "drugs cabinet" so I make sure the stuff I need is instantly available .....This is the only advice I have.ALWAYS.assume you will be woken with one and make it easy to get your meds and hydration

No answers I'm afraid but it was good to read that I am not the only one who wakes with their migraines. This has been a fortnightly pattern for me for the past 7 years, I have tried different pillows and tried sleeping raised but makes no difference for me and I always go to bed roughly the same time and never lie in. I wouldn't know if I get an aura as by the time I wake the migraine is already there. I take Frovatriptan which I take as soon as I wake but it can take 3 hours to kill the pain probably because the migraine has already taken hold. I do hope you find a solution to your migraines.

Hello I too suffer from the 4am daily migraine. I have tried everything and been to every doctor and the best treatment I have is I get up take Excedrine Migraine, eat something, heat up a heat pack in microwave and grab an ice pack out of the freezer and go back to bed with the ice pack on my forehead and the heat pack on the back of my neck.

Looking for advice also. I do work 50 to 60 hours week. Can't work less due to age and no savings. Work starts @ 1330 so not regular day/night time. Take naratriptan before sleep to prevent migraine from waking me but that's not good. Will be back to check for more replies. Best wishes to all.
