Newbie but long-term migraine sufferer

Hello everyone. My first time here. I wanted to say hi. I'm a stalwart of migraines but have never given up trying to find a way to reduce my suffering. Currently i am waiting to see if my CCG will allow a course of Botox for my chronic migraine. Anyone had this? Did it help?

Hi Sparkgirl welcome 😁

You'll find quite a lot on botox here, it's a mixed bag really. You need to get it 3 times or more to see the effects mostly but there are people who have had good results first time 👍 hopefully your one of them !!

Hi Sparky girl. Join the club!

I have been having Botox for 16 months. I have had 5 rounds. The injections are helping from around 40 to 70 per cent. I also take amytriptlyn 30mg at night to the complimentthe Botox. Apart from helping with the terrible pain I was keen to have the Botox to help reduce the number of rizartiptins I was using as my new neurologist said I was significantly raising my risk of a stroke by using so many. The Botox is not a wonder drug to cure all but a tool along with avoiding as many of the triggers as possible. I would certainly give it a go. Good luck.

You can buy it but very expensive. If you can get it on the NHS would be great. I'm on a 3 month trial then it has to be assessed as to whether I can get it on the NHS.

Hiya,you sound the same as me.. I started with Botox injections last April,,they last for 3months,first month I was terrible but they reassured me the first one can be bad before it gets better.but was off work that much I go a warning!! Then August I started with vertigo attacks,son as I stooped medication for it I would start again,ending up in hospital last time because I knocked myself out...I asked weather there is a connection to Botox but they dismissed this so carried on having botox(desperate for anything to work)...I have been horrendous last 3months,lost my job and now very depressed,when I go back end of April I don't want any more injections..

Hope I haven't depressed you with this!!

Hi,I'm not sure if they are linked but my migraines have been horrendous so won't be having any more!! I will see what else they suggest...wish you luck with yours😉
