I had migraine when I was 14. Went 49 years without having one until out of the blue when I was 56 I had another aura migraine. I had them very frequent. Haven’t had one fir a whole year but got one out of the blue today. It’s sets me right back & I have a dear of getting one more frequently. Anyone else like this?. I hate the visual aura . Then I feel as if my head is full of cotton wool afterwards. Sensitive to light & depressed.

Hello Loucie Can I ask you said you had one at 14 did you start your periods around that time ? I had my first one at 14 too when I had my first period then nothing for years until I was pregnant I became very frightened of having another one they are so horrible I then settled into a pattern of one about every 6 months then when I went through the menopause they went mad So I'm wondering with your age that they could be hormonal and are now settling down

I find now that I get the aura for about 20 minutes it always follows the same pattern a blind spot in my right eye then the swirling flashing zig zag lines that start then go to both eyes then die away from my left eye Like you I feel my head is full of cotton wool after I have started taking magnesium tablets and they have really helped

I find now if I get one I give in to it I know they always follow the same pattern and will go I get myself comfy and think here we go again and I just let it come I do deep breathing and try and relax the best I can it has helped so much with my fear of them they have become just a nuisance to me whereas I used to find them really frightening

They are rotten things but you aren't alone and lots of people understand

Wishing you all the very very best x

Thank you so much for you very friendly kind reply. Yes I think mine are menopausal. I take venflaxine to help prevent them. I keep meaning to go onto HRT but I’m reluctant to not taking them. I don’t know why I fear migraine so much but I guess it’s realising I’m not alone & it’s learning to be calm & let them take the course.

I do hope that your medication helps you and that you can get some reassuring advice about HRT I haven't taken it but I know people who it has really helped I know what you mean about fearing them I suffered terrible anxiety when I was younger as I was so frightened of the attacks but now I see them as a temporary nuisance that aren't going to harm me I'm so much more relaxed Also during my sight test at the opticians she reassured me they couldn't affect my eyesight and that calmed me down

They really are a waste of time aren't they

No you are not alone

Take care X
