Hi all! I’m new on here. My daughter who is 15 has various ailments. Mainly migraines. She suffered since primary school. She is allergic to sumatriptan and so the consultant put her on propranolol. Initially it was 20mg 2 x daily but that didn’t do anything. So she is now on 40mg 2 x daily.. she has been on this for about 4 months now. The migraines have practically vanished which is great! But this last few weeks she has had no appetite and is unintentionally losing weight. She also has huge awful blisters on her feet. No new shoes. I just wondered if anyone can identify with these symptoms? As I’m concerned it could be something awful like Addison’s disease if not a medication reaction xxxx

Hi Dee. My adult son suffers terribly from migraines. Propanolol is a beta blocker usually used for high blood pressure...I'm not sure if my son was put on it but he did try a couple of different BP drugs...one of them gave him more headaches and the other he didn't like the way it made him feel. Sorry I can't remember what class of drugs they were.

If propanolol is working for your daughter, that is great!! I don't think loss of appetite is a side effect. You should check with the prescribing doctor or research it on drugs.com

Could she be stressed about something that might be causing the loss of appetite? I have a grown daughter too, and well, I remember those teenage girl years. 😊 Don't know what to tell you about the foot blisters. Should have that looked at.

Good luck to you, and God bless.

Please consider magnesium glycinate for her. It is over the counter and recommended by every Neurologist I have meet.

I am not sure the pediatric dose, but I am taking it 3x a day. You could start with 2x a day 100mg. They should get less painful, then she should have less in a week. If that does not happen increase to 3x a day. If that doesn't work change to one of the other types ( there are 3-4).

There is lots of research that shows people with migraines are low levels and it really helps.

I was told I can as high as 1500mg. I am around 1200mg if I go any less they come back full force.

Best of luck.

Also, you could listen to the Podcast "Heads Up" it is run by 2 UK migraine specialist. I have learned so much form them.
