Has any one been prescribed Amitriptyline for migranes. I have had an increase in aura migranes and the neurologist prescribed these to me. I have not started them yet but wondered if anyone else has tried them. It's a preventative medication not a pain killer

Yes on these for hemiplegic migraine and they are fabulous. They take away the symptoms of my migraine , the symptoms were debilitating. Weakness , brain fog , speech etc . I feel like I have a life , don’t get me wrong I still get a bad day now and again but nothing like I used to be . Only draw back with them is the weight gain but I would rather have a few pounds extra

That's great. What dose are you on ? I have read so many bad reviews about these i was in two minds if to take them. I am a very wary about taking medications. How ever I am getting visual auras twice a week and would really like to stop them

I’m on 30mg at night , I was supposed to be on 50mg but I couldn’t function on 50mg as they knock you out

They stopped the pain for approx 9 months BUT I was like a zombie with dementia. Never again for me but everyone is different

I’ve been taking them for a few years. I was getting maybe 4/5 per week but now only about once per month. I do still get very mild ones weekly but they don’t last long and I don’t get aura with them.

I take 50mg daily and take them at 9pm. They did make me sleepy for about a week.

Hope you get yours sorted soon.

Hi....I tried amitriptyline several years ago but it was much too sedating during the day. However, I am considering trying it again as I have barely slept since end of March due to daily migraine starting in middle of the night. I have been encouraged by some of the positive comments you have received.....Give it a go...and good luck.

I was on 10mg but no change in migraine-I was on these for nerve pain. Now under migraine specialist who suggested Nortriptyline and told to go to 60mg and no change and sleep much worse so now increasing Amitriptyline gradually. It is a very safe drug as been around for many years. Try to stay with the tiredness as your body will adapt. There are lots of other preventatives out there but I was told you have to give them st least a 3 month trial. Good luck

I have actually used it it knocks you almost immediately to sleep for a long time and wake up without the migraine . You can sleep for more than ten hours as the case may be but you will also wake up in between sleep to ease your self or eat and go back to sleep almost immediately
