NIHR MindTech 2015 Mental Health Technology Symposium
Background: Digital technology has the potential to transform mental healthcare by increasing access to psychological treatments and real-time monitoring which can provide greater self-management and personalised care. These 'high-value' technological innovations promise to drive efficiencies and improve healthcare outcomes. However, to realise this potential major challenges must be addressed:
Successful implementation of technological innovation in mental healthcare requires system change with redesign of existing care pathways and delivery of services.
Substantial gaps exist in the evidence base underlying new technologies, especially regarding online mental health services, 'apps' and wearable/smart phone monitoring technologies. Much of what is currently available has not been evaluated.
Learning from promising local initiatives often does not 'scale up' and reach a national audience.
MindTech 2015 brings together leaders in clinical practice, patient experience, academic research, industry and technology development to showcase emerging technologies and address the grand challenges in technological innovation that face mental healthcare.
