Hi there!

Lets share our experience about our medication.

I have been on fluoxetine (20mg,then 40mg and 80mg) for about 6 months and it did not help me at all..I was just feeling more depressed and suicide then ever. Then my GP put me on venlafaxine (37.5mg,then75mg,150mg and now I am on 225mg).I do feel different now,but I can't say that it is better.

I am thinking now to speak to my GP about change to another one,but last time I have been told that venlafaxine is the best one..

What do you think about it?

What is your experience with antidepressants?

Yes Venlafaxine is one of the best Anti Depressants on the market for Depressiom/Anxiety/Panic Disorder. Your Dr will not be able to increase the strength any further than what you are on unless he/she refers you to a Physciatrist. It is a good med but hard to come off. I would imagine you will need to be weaned of it before starting you on another one. I cant understand it not helping you as it is for major depression. I think you should speak to your GP.

Good luck.

Jackie

Having been on virtually all of them, I'm on venlafaxine XL 225mh daily - the best I've had. I hope to go back to 150g shortly. I also have short-term counselling as necessary and affordable.,

I have been on ( maximum dose ) Citalopram for a few years, i found it kept the deppression just one step behind me, and i could get on with life. I always felt it was somehow waiting in the shadows to come back. I stopped taking it a couple of months back, and the last couple of weeks i fell right into severe deppression again. I'm back on it now.

I've never had any side effects, it has literally saved my life.

I've been on Fluoxetine 20mg since October 2012, the first two weeks were hell, especially week two(!!). It took a month or so to settle properly but i think it did help me in the end, just not as much as it should maybe. Dr wanted me to double the dose as i wasnt improving as i should be but i didnt want to do that until i'd had my therapy dates arranged. I do think it may be effecting my driving (headlights at night, slower reactions) so ive decided its not worth the risk as i need to drive to get around, to work and to therapy. Ive already written off my car which im sure wouldnt have happened if i wasnt on meds but we'll never know. I don't want to scare anyone, i think the effectiveness of drugs is very hard to measure as we are all very different and we don't all start in the same 'place'. Seems like Fluoxetine is iffy for a few people but i say TRUST your Dr and trust science and see how it works for you. Make sure you tell them everything that might be relevant.

Rocky start for me but im still here and im still in work, im not convinced neither would be the case if it wasnt for the meds.

I actually ran out this week so had to spread my last two over six days, thought i actually felt an improvement until noon today when something happened and it reminded me im definitely not ok. I keep fooling myself, i will leave the medication advice up to the medical professionals... and ensure i book my apts on time!

Take care everyone xx

I've been on Prozac, a good few years ago, and this seemed to suit me to start but then it didn't really help me at all. I was then put on fluoxetine, which again didn't help. I am now on Citalopram, first on the lowest dose and that was upped last year to 40mg, but I still don't feel its doing me any good. I am thinking of re-visiting my GP next week as I have been getting worse with my depression, never wanting to do anything, so I think its time?!
