Prazosin for ptsd

Today I have started taking prazosin a blood pressure medicine to help my ptsd triggers and night terrors. I have severe ptsd from childhood and through that affects my abilities to where I am told I am disabled to work and it gets in the way of most things. I’m hoping this new medicine along with my lexapro antidepressant will take away some of the physical responses my body goes into during a trigger episode. I wish everyone well and have been gratefully doing twice a week therapy since September to better understand the ptsd.

I've been on this for a couple years. It does help. I did check with my primary care Dr before starting it.

I've reached a point in my therapy where I'm thinking of discussing coming off it to see what happens.

I hope it works for you

I take Steriods for bloods and other types of medication. At seventy my Blood pressure has been lower than many younger people at 126/70, if I remember correctly, now they only tell me if mt BP rises up to 140 or over, then they will do further tests So you should eventually benefit from parazosin.

I tried to take it but I have a low BP in the mornings anyway (typically 100-105/70) and it dropped my BP to 90/65ish. I felt so bad in the mornings that I had to discontinue it. I wanted to share just in case you started to feel bad in the morning. Testing your BP would be helpful. Hopefully this will not occur for you!

Thank you all for this back. I am on the lowest available dose my terrors are about pets and saving things from terrible accidents so I do notice I have not had sich melt downs at night. I am not requiring as much sleep as I hope this is a beneficial part of the medicine as well. My mornings so far aren’t as panic filled waking up. And I found a bp monitor to keep my check so thank you for that help and happy day to your days. ☀️
