Am I the only person who tells myself, oh well my problem is not that bad or I have not been officially diagnosed so it's not real or important?

You are not, I used to tell myself this too, but its bullshit. Every mental health problem is important even without some doctor telling you it is. Not having a diagnose doesn't make it any less real.

Mental Health is a serious illness and if you feel you have this problem it is not clever to deny this illness

Make an appointment with your Doctor either over the phone or a face to face if your Doctor is concerned about this illness.

You get your problem checked out

I talk to my mom and she tells me she is doing and telling me exactly what any other therapist would. I just wonder if she is acting on a bias that benefits her while trying to help me thru something she has not exactly had herself.

Some times it is better to have someone who has no Axe to grind and will not judge

I would advise CBT andthey will help with coping techniques

I used to underestimate my problems and now know its not good, so please stop doing it - if your problem bothers you, it means the problem is big enough to be concerned about.

If you are comparing your problem to others’ problems and then saying, it is not that bad, then I think you may want to take a step back and think about the big picture. There will always be others with problems worse then ours or less worse than ours. When we own our life and our situation, then it is real, it is important, it is impacting us. We cannot compare apples and oranges, as they say.

If it is big enough that it weighs on your mind, distracts you, makes you sad, angry, or afraid, or endangers you, then it is important to deal with.

Do I tell myself to “suck it up, my life is not as bad as so and so’s”, yes, I think we all do at some point. But if I take me seriously and deal with it now, then it may not escalate to a crisis, later.

Best wishes and stay safe.
