I don’t know what to do

I’ve always been battling with depression and severe anxiety, I have been avoiding taking anti depressants for years and now I just don’t know what to do. I’ve began cutting again just when I was confident enough to wear short sleeves! Now I can’t and it’s really messing with me. I just want something that can help me get through my days better..

Please see the doctor and take medication, if necessary

Why avoid meds as they might help. Are you having any therapy?

Have you discussed your cutting with your Doctor. You need to discuss this and a treatment pathway will need to be worked out. Possibly a course of CBT should help.

When you cut and the bleeding is bad, contact NHS information on Tel 111 and explain what you have done.

Have you tried Breathing Techniques, that may help you divert your thoughts from cutting

Mindfulness may also help, A Relaxation Technique, that may help you bring your mood down preventing you to cut. Books are available on Amazon for £7;00.

It is important you discuss your problems with your Doctor, Have you considered why you are cutting at this time. Is it something to do with COVID and Lock-down.

Hello pleased to meet you. Please can I suggest the way forward is first to speak to your GP.

They offer a lot of advice, information guidance to help you.

Understand not wishing to be on medication there are reasons may be your not realising or thinking .

All medications there are many types antidepressants that you could use and these are useful but also one important aspect of mental health.

Is to seek help and support from one or two sources.

You could enrol in a mental health charity, if you are UK based.

These ones to consider.

I would look at the websites you can self refer or speak to your GP.

All offer floating support welfare wellbeing and health often have staff like yourself who have been there have mental health or any thing like your going through.

These are the ones.

These are all UK based might not be in all areas of the UK.

If you live else where in the World please look on line websites for Community Mental Health Services.

Please can I add also medications combined with diet nutrition wellbeing and lifestyle choices can be beneficial to coping.

I would always consider talking to these charities offer a lot.

Why avoid taking anti depressants? That what they are there for - in your case I would say they are essential. Without them I would not be alive now so you MUST see your GP. If you don't get any sympathy then ask to see another GP - that is your right.

Hi, the advice provided earlier is good advice. You really should go and see your doctor.

I’m was only writing because I was listening to a report earlier this week (mental health week in the uk at least) and there was a report on her own struggles by the ex children’s presenter Gail Porter. During the documentary there was a short interview with a particular nurse re self harm whose advice was extremely good. And about how most of us don’t practice enough proper self care. Not a substitute for seeing the doctor but definitely worth putting in place ways to be kind and look after yourself. Sending you lots of hugs.

Please don't avoid medication. It's a disease. I had a friend that avoided medication and was constantly self medicating with recreational drugs and drinking a bottle of red to cope with life. Counselling is good A supportive GP and a good psychiatrist is even better. Proper monitoring of medication is super important

I also avoid taking anti depressants, and I know what you mean about wanting something to get through the better days but GPs are reluctant to prescribe such intermittent medication so you should consider using anti depressants long term if you struggle more often than not.
