Tightness in neck

Tight/pressure feeling on the right lower neck/ shoulder area for at least an hour, seemingly out of nowhere. Could this be stress related and what can be done about it? Thanks in advance.

Have you been sitting in a draft or doing some lifting and twisted yourself or same.

Try a warm compress on the sore are that may help to calm the pain

Thank you for responding.

It certainly sounds like a stress or tension issue. When you are tense, you tend yo hold your body in a tighter posture, which can cause this type of pain. Also, when the pain is there, you hold yourself funny to relieve the pain, but it actually makes it worse. Can you put your arm right up above your head on the affected side? If not, it could be the start of a frozen shoulder. Is there something that you are doing that puts you in an unnatural position. If it is a new movement, it may be your body getting used to it.

Try some breathing exercises initially and see if that helps. You could also try some gentle stretching. A good one to open up that area is: Put the palm of your hand flat on the wall with your fingers pointing behind you. Press your shoulder towards the wall, keeping your arm straight and turn your body and head away from the wall. You should feel a nice stretch between your collar bone and into your armpit and shoulder area. Hold it each time for 30 to 45 seconds.

Good luck.
