Am I using my depression as an excuse?

Hi everyone. Sorry I’ve been posting so much lately.

I recently got diagnosed with depression and started on drugs (less than a week ago). I feel tired all the time and don’t do much. I try to comfort myself by saying that I’m passing through some hard time, but I keep thinking: what if I’m not doing anything of value because I’m using my depression as an excuse? When is it okay to give myself a break? Especially when I have important things that /have/ to be done, but can’t do any of them. When is it depression and when is it just laziness?

For a little more context: I’ve been wasting my time (and practically my life) for weeks now and that’s why I went to the psychiatrist in the first place.

this is something i can definitely relate to. i found it hard to get out of bed and to take care of myself and i struggled with thinking that maybe i was just lazy. but when i finally got on the right meds and found a good therapist it became so much easier to get out of bed in the morning. let your medication kick in and see how it makes u feel. also if youre sleeping through activities that u usually would enjoy then its depression probably. i hope u start to feel better💕

Hello Sylicap, Don't apologise as you haven't been posting that much and it's obvious you are searching for answers, or at least for help. That is what the communities are for, to express your fears doubts and concerns. Cut yourself some slack you are entitled and start to begin your journey back to health. Like Amanda has said 'she can relate' to your thoughts and words.

We are all here for you, as in time you will be here for others who are feeling the same.

You have like minded people on here so good luck to you.

Please keep posting and letting us all know how you are doing.

You cannot lay out your problems down to depression, although we can feel disinterest of activities we have to do in life. You have only been on your medications for a week you need to allow about five weeks for the medications to work.

Feeling unsettled regarding your life, with concerns regarding life choices can be caused by Mental Health Concerns so you need to push yourself to get those chores done however you need help from Spouse to help. You and many others of us can become angry with ourselves and those around us when we have described conditions
