After many years on Ativan, and having it quit working. I was recently switched to klonopin.

Has any one else made a similar switch and what were your experiences?

Thank you in advance

After 7 years on Xanax I switched to Klonopin. The Xanax wasn’t working anymore and I was getting horrible rebound anxiety when the pill would wear off. The Klonopin is better because it will last longer in your system. It took me about a week to get used to the new med. No big side effects just a slightly different feeling. Good luck with the switch!

Thank you. I was on ativan ten yrs. I do feel different on klonopin. But it's only been a day. I'm hoping this will work for me. Thanks again.

Hi there,

Ativan is the same type of drug klonopin is, BUT, for some reason it’s always what I’ve gone back to, after having tried others. I’ve suffered with major depression and horrible anxiety since 2006, and C-PTSD was diagnosed in 2013 after several traumatic incidents (Just to give you an idea of my situation). I’ve taken Xanax as well, with much the same problems that PrimoB says they experienced.

For me, Klonopin is the best med for taking the edge off a lot of anxiety at times, and I’ve never ever noticed or had any bad reactions or side affects. It doesn’t make me feel strange or different, either.

That’s something I can’t say about Xanax or a few others. Plus it doesn’t make me sleepy, but I’ve been taking it for several years now now, so that may be something to prepare yourself for, and of course the dosage will start out lower and build up if it’s needed.

I wish you luck with it, as well as good mental and physical health, along with all of us here.

Please let me know how you’re feeling on it, when you’ve had enough time to assess it. Thank you for posing the question to me. I’m sorry I didn’t respond sooner.

Thanks for responding. This is now my 3rd day on klonopin (since switching from Ativan after a decade of use)

Im feeling pretty ok. Im kinda surprised because i was expecting the worse. Ive been sleeping so much better and feel much calmer. Im glad i was switched.

Prayers, Love and Light for all of us who fight an unseen battle everyday. <3

How much do you currently take? I just switched from xanax that I have been on for about 2 months to Klonopin. I took .25 2x a day but feel like it's not enough for my severe anxiety. I think I might need more. Hoping that this works for me because my 35mg lexapro sure isnt.

Im currently taking .05 twice a day. Give it some time. If your not getting any relief after at least a week or so. Talk to your doc about upping your dose.
