Hi. Been suffering with depression and mild anxiety for nearly a year now. I am on 30mg of citalopram and have been since january. Works busy but im just mentally drained all the time and find little pleasure in doing things after work or even at weekends. I kinda feel myself drifting away from friends and work colleagues. Whats even worse ive just getting over the worst of thrush..which is nearly gone thank god! I just feel spaced out and tired all the time. Can anyone suggest anything? Thanks:)

You have been on Citalopram now since the beginning of the year, I would advise you talk to your GP or CPN to assess if you still need the dose of medication you take. The drug may be causing problems with concentration.

Hi there. Thanks for your comment bob means a lot. It definetly effects my concentration. The nature of me actually being on them in a few words is basically i was rejected by my birth mum and nan. The do seem to be helping as i can get out of bed and go to work. When i spoke to my gp last week hes strongly advising me to stay on the same dose for a few more months

Yes I know how you must feel, my family were not the best kind to have and that can really mess us up throughout our lives. We all need not to project ourselves as victims because of others complicated mixed emotions that can be transmitted and continued through our own family life.

Sometimes the GP will keep you on a higher dose for a time then will begin to reduce the dose later on when He can see an improvement. Try not to worry at this time most sufferers will only be on medication once in their life while others may have relapses phased at various times throughout life. Very few will need to take AD throughout their lives. Hopefully you will be fine and be able to move on the pathway you wish to take

Yes - Reduce to 20mg immediately (then drop to 10 after a year) it’s a nasty drug and does not help long term but you just become dependent and suffer the side effects.

You may need a higher or lower dose. OR add a different medication. Honestly it sounds like the medication and/or the dose that you're taking right now isn't working for you. Did you tell your GP exactly what you mentioned above? I mean, if it's been a couple of weeks, call back and leave a message with a nurse. Or if you have a online portal, contact your GP directly. Say the same thing you said above. You might need to be a little pushy for a change to be made...BUT sounds like a change does need to be made. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.

It is important you follow your GP s advice in the early stages of medication. He will be taking into consideration building up the dose in your system. Eventually your GP will start reducing the dose when He can see you are improving.

Many people take higher doses initially, this is standard procedure. No-one here can advise on medication doses only your Health Professionals. I take 20mg daily and have been on this dose for over ten Years. My GP had me on 30mg for about six months, then it was reduced to my working dose. I get assessed every one year for all my medications although I understand the dose I now take will be with me on a continuous basis.
