Depakote

Can anyone help me. My son has been on the above for six weeks now he is bi polar II and it is causing him to feel very anxious and at times angry. He says he feels like disappearing and gets really down. His symptoms were to go on the iPad and spend what he does not have, he is self employed and is already in debt. Does anyone take Depakote and have you had similar experiences? He has been very down for almost two years now, being an electrician he does need his wits about him, hope someone can help us, thank you.

Hi lin62-65ze,

Take a look at this link to Mind UK charity for more information on Depakote and other mood stabilising drug treatments. If you follow their other links you should find the information you want. Can you talk to his doctor or mental health team about the effects it's having on him and get some professional advice and support?

Keep in touch,

Best wishes

Hi I take 1500mg depakote for my bipolar plus 200mg sertraline for my depression and anxiety so talk to the doctor as he may need antidepressants to of maybe the dosage needs adjusting.

I thought I was going mad it's hard to put into words what was going on in my head i'd lose it and the anger was horrible believing that I was worthless useless, thinking my kids were better off with me and I'm married with 3 children diagnosed 2008...

I hope this helps xx

Hi,

It appears that you are passing through a depressive phase of bipolar disorder. When someone is depressed thoughts of low self esteem are common. You are taking an anti depressant and at a maximum dose. You can get your medicine adjusted, talk about your feelings, take a walk, these little things do help along with medicine.

Thank you so much for your comments, my son has been on 50 mg of Sertraline and the low dose of Depokote, he said he felt even more depressed, so much that he wanted to die. He is in a difficult situation at the moment, through circumstances beyond his control he was in prison last year for 7 weeks through his wife stating things which were totally untrue, however he has learnt from this but in the process lost his dog, house and wife. His wife has some sort of mental disorder too as his barrister saw the video taken and said she is unhinged. His bi polar disorder also got him deeply in debt, this is very upsetting as he is so clever and works so hard. He is a self employed electrician, we are all waiting for his now ex wife to put the house on the market, she likes to control everything at everyone else's expense! I have bi polar which is why I am on the site, I take Lithium and have been fine for over 25 years, hence I could see my sons decline. Mental illness is hard to explain to other people, most of us have to cope with our lives, work, marriage, children, these things are often harder when the other partner or work colleagues do not have understanding. I am so grateful for your replies, I shall let my son read what you have sent me. I am pleased that you both are better now and one more time Thank you 😊🤗 xx
