New to this so here goes. I have depression and anxiety was diagnosed recently honestly don't know how long now its been going on.but I guess my main point is what is the point in driving on with no purpose nothing to hold dear just the same each day trying to go on with the futility of it all only to get back In bed and do it all again the next day. If that's all there is in life for the next 60 odd years then why go on surely its better to just accept death

Hello, and welcome. I know all those feelings. How has today been? I'm guessing not the best if you're up at 2am ...

in reply to Suzie40

That's pants. Do you sleep in the day?

in reply to

That's not enough sleep. And no, I'm not lecturing you, but lack of sleep brings out the worst in me and definitely doesn't help my depression / anxiety. I don't have any great answers to your point in carrying on, and what your purpose is, because I've been feeling a bit like that myself recently. What I do know is that better days can appear from out of the blue, and when they do, they are a chance to take a breather from the black dog and take stock of things.

Didn't think lecture until you said it. Its how my sleep pattern has been for about 10 years now

What do you do all night? Is it like body tired but mind isn't (that's what I get), or you literally aren't tired?

in reply to Suzie40

Mainly just that I don't feel tired and no matter how much I try can't sleep

in reply to Suzie40

I usually just lay on my bed

That must be difficult. The nights are lonely times when no one else is awake.

in reply to Suzie40

You get used to laying in bed alone over time guess it doesn't make it any better though

No it doesn't, and from my own experience of depression and insomnia, the night times are the worst times. Do you live alone? x

in reply to Suzie40

Have a room mate ive not been living here long but he's alright

Is he someone you can talk to about how you're feeling?

in reply to Suzie40

Nah can't say I would plus he's got depression too we agreed that we would not discuss it in a bid to keep things cheerful

yes it seems futile at first but get as much help as you can doctors a/d if you need them read books about your condition there is help.you cannot predict your future so you don't know if it's futile.its hard but once on the road to recovery things will change you will have tips on your journey.read a book called feel the fear and do it anyway.good luck.

in reply to welly10

Regardless of depression can't say a book would help it

You'd be surprised what you read and how it can inspire you. other people struggle. they face getting up each morning and feel the same way but still do it because they know it's worth fighting for.when you are not thinking straight this is how depression gets you its smart.but you have to invest in yourself do things get a routine going eat well and exercise it all helps.

Hi Hidden

I am an ex-sufferer myself, well maybe not ex but certainly someone who's feelings of anxiety and depression was a lot more debilitating in the past, these days they are not.

You seem to be someone who likes to have something to aim for in their life, to give it meaning and purpose.

Part of the cause of anxiety and depression is that as a sufferer we tend to not focus or imagine a positive future for ourselves and instead one in which we continue to feel pain or we don't imagine anything, this can lead us to enter a closed state, this is when what we are experiencing turns into a looping journey and thought process within which we believe we can't break free. This is of course not true. I work with individuals of all types and at all levels of society who suffer from anxiety, stress and depression and it is clear that many of us go through periods in our lives like this and that it does not have to be a place in which we remain.

I would like to ask you a question if a may...

What does a purposeful life look like to you?

in reply to TruthSi72
