Hi I want to know does it ever get better or do u just learn to cope.

Yes it does but it takes time. Be patient with yourself. I've been off and on anti-depressants for years. I lost my job, my home (with 2 young kids) and had a violent marriage breakdown in 1996 plus I have been sexually assaulted and beaten up a couple of times since which set me back. But about 18 months ago I finally started to feel better. It took lots of anti depressants and counselling and work on myself to improve my life. Hopefully you won't have to wait so long but just be nice to yourself, pamper yourself, try not to over think things and don't punish yourself if you don't feel like doing anything. My house was a total mess for years, I couldn't function though I did go to work but I was not very productive and had no confidence whatsoever. Now I am a totally different person and will not let anxiety or depression hold me back. You will get there, just be patient with yourself and try and understand why you feel this way. Over time you learn to cope. The bad feelings come and go and different things will happen to you in life that will be very painful and hard to live with. The people in this group help get this down on paper, at least. We are all sensitive and takes things very personally, and others just don't understand. I make the mistake of telling people what is bothering me and they aren't really interested. Then the 'friendship' doesn't last. People don't care about others' issues. Some people have a positive attitude about everything and I just don't have that. When you come from a dysfunctional family and have years of abuse that never stopped, others can't comprehend that. Only people like 'us' can understand that. We do our best to find ways to cope, and sometimes what we choose turns out to be incorrect. I searched for a site like this and learned here there are many people who have problems like we do. One day at a time.

Hi Jorna, you have had some great advice from 'mena52'! Yes with the right kind of support and intervention you can begin to recover. I presume you are talking about depression here, you don't say. It does take time, and you may have setbacks, but it's learning how to deal with those setbacks, developing the right 'tools' and techniques to manage your condition. In some respects, it's important to bear in mind that some MH conditions never go away as such, they may go into remission, and it's in those times that we can get careless and over confident, thinking it's gone away, and stop doing the things we know helps, and then 'Bam!', something happens and it turns around and bites you on the bum...so to speak!

Thank you Bubblegum666 it was a struggle but I am in a much better place right now. My doctor keeps telling me to write a book about my life story, he often tells me it is like a soap opera with the ups and downs LOL. I hope you are well. We can beat mental health problems we just need to be kind to ourselves and take note of what our body is telling us. xxx

I feel I'm on that course , I'm torn between seeking help and just trying to deal. I've suffered from anxiety and depression on and off for years , my relationship has been rough at times and may be the root. I was using meds a few years ago but after things got better at home I was able to get past that. I'm finding this time harder , I usually spend to much time reliving the past in my head and tearing myself down. I still mange to get up everyday and do everything im suppose to regardless of how I'm feeling , it actually helps to keep my mind busy .I just joined yoday hoping this mifht help.me since I'm finding it hard to cope alone

Hiya, I agree with the other posts. With the right support and help you can dramatically improve and also become better at coping when you encounter difficulties. Life will always have ups and downs of course, but if you are given the tight tools and techniques, you will be able to respond better to any given situation. For all of us life is a continuous learning curve and everyone is different. We all have individual strengths and frailties and it is about learning to get the right balance. Keep learning and keep believing and always, always be kind to yourself. Take care,
