I'm taking antidepressant but different brands...first few days I got dizzy...but then got okay.

I took venlafaxine for about a year and never suffered much in the way of side effects. The first couple of weeks are always rocky with any antidepressants so you need to persevere through this time. I did put on a lot of weight but think that's due to a combination of medicines not just the venlafaxine. Overall I found it helpful, it can be very hard to come off of allthough (touch wood) I haven't been too bad.

My venlafaxine (slow release) has recently been increased from 150mg to 300mg. I did get the usual dry mouth for 10 days. After I had been taking the higher dose in the evening for about a month my GP advised I should take 1 tablet a.m. and 1 tablet p.m. Within three to four days of this regime I became close to passing out when standing for a short while (a common side effect for me), shortness of breath. I am now back on 300mg which I take in the evening with no real problems.

Hi Sammy I am on 225mg venlafaxine twice daily. I have side effects like headaches and a very dry mouth. However this much more bearable than the depression I suffer. Not sure if this is of any use to you, but if your side effects are particularly troublesome maybe you should go to see your GP or other health professional and have a chat with them and tell them about the side effects you are suffering. Also I have gained weight while being on venlafaxine but I cant say that it is definitely the venlafaxine that has caused me to gain weight as I'm on other medication too, or it could be the combination of the two. Hey samm5504! Yes I take venlafaxine! I believe it made me gain weight of course, and also when I have tried to get off of it it makes me very dizzy and I feel like I am going to pass out if I dont get one in my system right away! What does it do to you?

Hi Denise . Ta Ta for you prompt reply. I'm taking plenty of medication & I find several side effects from them. It's hard to describe if venlafaxine is causing any side effects but I think causes sweating. Hope you are keeping well now. Take care.
