I would like to say ignore them, who cares what they think, but you can't dismiss half the world. (AT LEAST HALF) If people don't see what's wrong , we could try bandaging our heads, they don't think anything is wrong. We as depressed people should be talking about it, getting people to accept it, but I am very reluctant to mention it outside my family. I think people would see me differently and treat me differently. At 69, soon to be 70, I'm self conscience every time I forget something because someone will bring up Alzheimer's. If my legs are bad I will take my cane when I go out, people take no notice, they rush me, bump into me, etc. But on occasion a nice someone will hold a door open or ask if I need help. I savor those moments. The lesson for me is to be kinder to everyone, those whose problems show and those who don't. Also another reason to protect our community and support each other.

My niece used to put a bandaid on her forehead when she was depressed so people that knew her would know. All the world's a stage as far as everyone else is concerned. You never know what's going on in the life of someone else. Personally, I've found crying in public to be therapeutic, it's just an emotion, like laughing.... everyone does it, generally strangers want to comfort people when they're sad.
