HYPER SENSITIVITY 10 DAYS AFTER CIRCUMCISION SO STILL CAN'T WEAR ANY CLOTHING OR UNDERWEAR!

Still no improvement what so ever sensitivity wise and I'm started to get concerned as it's still as painful and sensitive as it was the first few days.

The only ability to be able to wear underwear and/or any clothing is driving me round the bend at this point.

Starting to regret having it done as this is awful. Caught it a couple times on my dressing gown today and the sensitivity is so sharp and unbearable that I still feel a mile off from clothing.

Sorry to hear that. Are you applying vaseline or something similar? It might prolong the time it takes to keratinize.

If that's not the reason then you should ask your doctor for some numbing gel like lidocaine that you can apply to your head until the sensitivity has gone down.

I'm not applying Vaseline although that doesn't as far as im aware effect things anyway.

Speaking to doctor about a numbing gel may be an option i should look at as its getting ridiculous!

Thank you!

Being very sensitive at day 10 is pretty normal. Do apply vaseline on a gauze and cover the head of your penis. It lets the penis slowly adapt to the new situation and it helps a lot. There is still friction, but the vaseline lessens the effect of the friction making it a lot more bearable. At day 10 you can also run soft hot showers over the head of the penis in a low stream, helps with sensitivity training.

I know you might feel like it sucks now, which it does, you are at day 10. But trust me, it gets better later on and after a while you won't be bothered by it at all. And after that, you will not regret it at all. Remember, your penis isn't used to this much sensation so it's normal to feel that way. Imagine having your eyes closed for years and then suddenly opening them and be exposed to sunlight. Same principle.

Good luck.

Thanks very much this has eased my mind a lot. Will definetly try the shower tomorrow on it to hopefully help the process. I'm glad its not completely abnormal what I'm going through. Thanks again.

Also make sure its medical Vaseline, not the kind you buy in supermarkets as those might have fragrances in there that could irritate. Standard vaseline, no fragrance, no nothing, best to go to a pharmacy and ask for it there. Not sure if my memory serves right, but I think it was around week 3 where I could stop using the whole vaseline/gauze duo? Everyone is different, it could take you less time but also even longer, it varies from person to person, but fear not ... it is normal and nothing to worry about.

Yes I am on my 12th day and I am doing the same as you described.I apply sudocream or Vaseline around the stitches/wound and put gauze around it since day 1 and i am doing much better . The head is still sensitive but not as much (thank God). I would not be able to survive until now without the gauze tbh. It also prevents from stuff going into the wound . So far, gauze is saving my life.

It's absolutely not abnormal what you are going through. We've all had this hypersensitivity of the glans. Just be patient, it will gradually going better. Mostly it takes 2-3 week but this varies from person to person. Using a gauze with Vaseline can indeed lessen the effect of the friction but it doesn't speed up the process of fading away the hypersensitivity. I completely agree with Cipher, after that, you will not regret it at all.

My sons- age 9 & 11- are on day 12 today and both still unable to wear any type of underwear. They both had severe phimosis, so I understand their glans have never been exposed to anything prior to the procedure so the hyper sensitivity makes sense. Their father (not circ, but been able to retract foreskin since pre-puberty) and school both seem to think they should already be able to wear underwear and get on with life. I am not concerned with hypersensitivity at this point- as many forums have given testimonies from many patients that this was typical. However, despite globs and globs of Vaseline, per doctors direction, Their glans still have gotten stuck to blankets or their T-shirt/gowns. This has caused the glans to bleed when they have pulled them away to quickly. Each warm shower softens the “scabs” and also causes light bleeding. Is this normal this far into recovery? Anything I have found about bleeding is referring to incision site... and not the actual glans. How long will their glans be producing the sticky stuff (lymph?)? I am thinking they will not be able to wear underwear until the sticking reduces significantly as it seems to cause them to progress backwards on their glans healing.

The only bleeding that normally occurs due to circumcision is from the incision site, so around the penis shaft, and under the penis head where the frenulum was.

If your kids are bleeding from their actual penis head, it might have happened that some friction caused to the penis heads to be "hurt" and the penis glans is now forming a scab (which is quite different to a scab on any other part of the body). It looks like a white/yellowish skin / scab formation that can dry up and crack (cause bleeding). Just like any other scab it will take time to heal and not much you can do about it. Try to keep it moist (having the vaseline on the gauze and change whenever the boys use the bathroom to keep it clean and moist). When that scab dries, and the penis gets erect, or even hit (took a circumcision for me to realise just how many times I accidentally hit my dick lol) and it can make it bleed due to it being solid and cracking.

When sleeping, either they should sleep with two blankets, one for the top part and one for the bottom part so their penis isn't covered by them or wear briefs with vaseline and gauze on it.

As for showers, try not to shower more than 5 minutes as you don't want the stitches in the incision to get too wet. As for the scabs on the penis head, it doesn't matter as much though it might be uncomfortable.

It might help taking a picture to see if it is what I think it is, however it sounds like a scab on the penis head due to "friction" damage and is nothing serious and only will heal in time and nothing extra special you can do about it other than keeping it "moist" via vaseline and gauze.

Also, if you didn't change it soon enough and it sticks to the penis glans, do not pull it off right away. Make it wet with warm water, even a few drops will be ok, that should loosen anything that might have dried and it will be easy to pull off and shouldn't cause bleeding.

Slightly the opposite to what you been doing Mkd, but I would have them wear tight pants, 'jocky' shorts a couple of sizes smaller. Put vaseline on a non stick gauze like Melonin then use this as a pad between the wound and the pants. Vaseline reduces sticking and pants reduce movement. Keeping things still will help.

It was almost three months before I was allowed to go back to work so ignore school and let them heal. The thought of them getting a knock whilst in school is a worry I am sure. Also ask Dad would he like to try it !

Thanks for the advice. We tried the nonstick gauze on day 3 and it was way too soon for anything to be touching. The boys have had a better day today and was able to tolerate tight jockey pants and lots of Vaseline to cover tip. We may try the gauze again tomorrow until they are more comfortable. Did you mean you were out three months or just three weeks?!! And yes- the school clearly isn’t familiar with Circumcision healing times in this age group. We are in the US so most males go through the recovery as newborns .... and no chance their dad would put himself through this! He admits he always wished he was circumcised, but too afraid to go through with it. ;)

Yes I was off work for almost three months. Doctor advised at least two weeks but Occupational Health Nurse at my Employer would not let me return until she was totally certain I was ready and would not suffer any knocks. My job is not very physical but does involve a lot of moving around, in and out of vehicles.

Here in the UK I think it is less common and to be honest I would have preferred not to have it done knowing what I know now. But I can empathise with your Boys, the first few days can be hell.

If school insist on them coming back ask can they guarantee they will not get knocked. Classrooms and Schoolyards can be tough places and any fooling around could result in a Very sore boy.

It does get better, wish them well.
