Penis wound swollen after circumcision

Hi guys, new here, so please tell if I left out anything.

Ok, as per title, I had a circumcision about 1 month ago, due to phimosis. The wounds are almost healed already, except for some swelling which still remains. It is a little bit painful even if I gently press it.

Anyone with similar experience? Please do share your solution.

Thanks!

You're going to bruised and sensitive for some time. The healing can take ages and different parts will heal at different rates. If you are still worried talk to your GP.

I see. Btw before the surgery, my penis is symmetrical. After the surgery, the bottom left part of my skin is slightly larger than the right one after the circumcision. Is this normal? Cuz it looks weird.

in reply to KellyRedux

Hey, mine looks the exact same (bigger even on the same side as you) haha, to be honest I don't think it is normal as the swelling will take a long time to fully resolve. I had mine done 8 weeks ago but it's going down slowly but surely. It's mainly a cosmetic issue, and if you want you can go and see about removal of the excess skin. I would personally leave it though for now. And by the way, all penises look weird, in my opinion anyway (as a straight male that probably doesn't mean much!).

My swelling is like a ring(the skin slightly bulging higher than the one's untouched at the upper part of the shaft), all round the wound. Is it serious? haha.

Anyway I said mine looked weird cuz I know some pornstars circumcisized their dicks, and theirs looked pretty pleasant. As in, you can still see where the wound previously was due to the different in the skin color, but still the surfaces looked smooth. I thought mine was going to be something like that, but for now it certainly doesnt LMAO.

But anyway why u mention of excess skin removal? Cuz I thought since mine was symmetrical before the surgery, it would still looked symmetrical after the surgery. Well, circumcision is juz a removal of the foreskin right? So I'm wondering why it would looked non-symmetrical after the surgery. Is it possibly the doctor's mistake(maybe he attached it wrongly? Idk haha). My doctor did not mention anything tho.

I'm trying to picture your current penis (in the most appropriate manner of course). I think I know what you mean.

It's only been 4 weeks since you've had it done, and the scar line will take a long time to heal along with your frenulum (banjo string). The last stages of healing will always take the longest.

As far as the circumcised penises you've seen, remember they probably had theirs done at childbirth (as that was/is the practice in America) so it's been decades since they had theirs done.

And just so you know, to my knowledge circumcision does involve removal of the whole foreskin, but your surgeon may have removed the vast majority of it at the top and left a little at the base of your penis' head as mine did, to allow him to stitch to the body of the penis and to prevent your erections from being too tight and restrictive. This also allows for secretions to still be produced by the remaining foreskin to keep your gland as moist as possible. The surgeon will have also stitched that foreskin to your frenulum as well for extra support.

The cosmetic result is therefore that your penis may be slightly asymmetrical, especially on the underside where your frenulum was stitched. It also doesn't help that there is still some swelling present as that will make it look even worse. As long as it's not causing you any pain and isn't infected, and when you use it it doesn't cause any inconvenience, I wouldn't worry. Sexual partners of such men say they like the sensation that uneven foreskin produces, so your surgeon may have actually helped you out (as mine did) ;)

"Sexual partners of such men say they like the sensation that uneven foreskin produces, so your surgeon may have actually helped you out (as mine did)" <--- LOL hahaha alright wondering how u get that statement.

Yea I think my doctor did stitched the foreskin to my frenulum. Forgot to mention I bled twice after my surgery(5th day after surgery, then 21st day after surgery), most probably due to erection I guess, which I think caused the stitches somewhere around the frenulum to tear?

Anyway have you tried cleaning the wounds? I juz let water flow through without touching them(due to they are swollen), and I'm scared I might tear of anything lmao. So I wonder what is your progress since u are around 1 month ahead of mine.

in reply to KellyRedux

It's true mate! Foreskins are highly erogenous and provide friction on intercourse which makes your partner feel additional sensation. Cutting ours off means we lose that (not that we had it in the first place!), so the surgeons try to keep some excess skin for that purpose and also to allow your penis to 'grow into' the skin on erection.

The surgeon would have stitched your frenulum for sure. The bleeding is very common, especially if it was an 'ooze', instead of a 'bleed'. Thankfully I never had any major bleeds or stitch tearing, to be honest I don't even think I had any erections whilst I was swollen!

I used to clean the wound with warm running water under the shower, avoiding touching it (as you do), and if I could I would gently use my thumb to clean the underside of my head and the pocket between the frenulum and rest of the scar on the underside of the penis. I'd also use vaseline jelly on the wound line after drying my penis as that hydrates it and allows for healing to take place especially if you've got an open wound with blood involved.

When I as at your stage, the main swelling had resolved, but my frenulum was still quite swollen. I still actually had one small area of scar which had not healed (3 mm long). The rest was sound. My glans was still overly-sensitive. Once I started applying the vaseline regularly, it healed within the week.

Given your complications, you will take longer to heal than I did. I was very lucky looking back and comparing myself to others. Also avoid touching your penis as much as possible if you get my drift. That won't be doing you any favours...

Wow so you mean your swelling are almost completely gone now? After 8 weeks? And how did u not get any erection during the swollen period? I get it whenever I sleep lololol. Or is it just because your swelling was gone pretty fast?

BTW, I just realize even if normal water flow through the swollen area, I would feel a little bit warm around that area. Did you experience that?

in reply to KellyRedux

Very much so, my swelling had pretty much totally resolved by week 6. Now its week 8 and the only swollen bit is my frenulum, but that's really negligible.

As far as not getting erections go, I suppose I just didn't get any in the first two weeks. I also avoided looking at certain things that would trigger off erections if you see what I mean.

I healed faster than yourself for whatever reasons, but bear in mind I didn't touch my penis for at least 4 weeks and if anything was a little over the top in the way I handled the surgeons post op instructions.

As far as it feeling warm goes, yes it did because the skin there is very sensitive. It also felt quite itchy round the scar line up until week 7 which is natural and will resolve.

I see. For the meanwhile, I think I'll just wait for the remaining blood clot around the frenulum to fall off and hope for the best recovery.

Anyway thanks for sharing your experience. Appreciate it very much!

Hey man, just regarding to what you said, do the blood clots fall off while they are dried? I'm just new to this hahahah

KellyRedux in reply to Erenkruger

Yes. But some of it still might still stick on your penis, just wait for the right time and you can try to slowly peel it off. Little bit of water might help.

Hi Mate, even i had the same problem as you had. It looked like a crown on the kings head. It was painless, but it looked weird. Now its been 5 weeks from my circumcision which became mandatory after Phimosis, still there is a ring. The ring came into being after doctor removed the dressing after 2 days of circumcision and its been 5 weeks now still the ring is there. Though a little reduced but still its there. Does it take so much time for the ring to reduce.? Its been 4 months for you now, has the ring reduced for you. Your reply will help a lot as i am scared to do sex in such a situation.

Thanks a lot,

Deepak Jog ( Indian working in Saudi Arabia).

Are the stitches still there? 5 weeks is not really a long time so.. give it more time mate. :)

Hey man how do you know if your making any progress in healing? Just got mine done 6 days ago and I'm already seeing some improvement I think but I'm not sure as I don't know what healing looks like hahahaha

KellyRedux profile image
KellyRedux in reply to Erenkruger

You would have to wait for the stitches to completely fall off first. Might take around 1 month or more. After that just monitor slowly to see if there is anything weird. Mine should be considered ok now, just that the healed wound did not look as good as I expected.

Hi there, i hav the same problem like u did its bn a week now since by circ' but also i got swelling on the left making my penis look unpleasantly different from before. Had ur swelling gone is urs looking symmetrical now? Ur reply will be helpful thanks

KellyRedux profile image
KellyRedux in reply to Brightt

Yes, quite. Mine did not looked symmetrical because my doctor cut a little bit more foreskin from the left side. But everything looks quite okay now.

Can try to consult your doctor, not really sure about that.

Do you have a picture of it? I think mine might be similar.

Does the circumcision line stay very close to your glans (directly under it) when you are erect and soft?
