Worried about circumcision - 4 days, bruising, yellow stuff, pain

Hi everyone,

I was circumcised last thursday, so 4th day post-op. I had many adhesions so during surgery they had to pull quite a bit. Here's what worries me : I have a huge bruise that covers half of the shaft from the frenulum to the bottom, and a bit of yellow stuff coming from the edge of the frenulum. I cannot wear boxers, because whenever the area behind the frenulum rubs against the boxers it hurts like hell. I'm just naked at home, and there is no pain whatsoever if I just rest. Yesterday I drove to the emergency room after calling the health line, the nurse said I was gonna need a debridement (that the doctor was going to « wash » the wound painfully. But then she called urology, described what she saw, and the resident said it was allll perfectly normal and that I could go home, and that they weren't gonna prescribe antibiotic (the yellow stuff DID stain my boxers a little bit, like 4 spots). There is also dried blood around the wound cause I bled a bit the first two nights. I had many erections last night, none too painful, I went back to sleep each time and slept relatively well. I also do not have a fever. But all I'm seeing and reading is making me freak out, the nurse freaked me out too, and message box of the urology department is full. I do not know what to do to calm down. I can't seem to find anyone who had an experience like mine. I also can't see the stitches unless I pull a little but that seems to be the case for many of you. Anyway, if you've got any hint at all it would be immensely appreciated. If anybody has had BAD bruising, pain when the frenulum area rubs, and a bit of yellow stuff at the edge of the frenulum, all that after the 4th day, please let me know so that I know there is hope.

Thank you.

I think you have a hope, still. ;) Swelling and bruising is quite normal on first week. Yellow'ish leak, too.

You may spread petroleum jelly on wound before cover it with an gauze. Then dried wound discharge won't stuck in gauze or underwear.

Just shower daily and let the water flow on penis > dry > spread ointment/petroleum jelly > cover with gauze /roller bandage > repeat until it is healed.

Thank you, this is very reassuring. I’ll heed your advice.

Another good thing to have around, when you're going to have this type of surgery, is a sports fighter's protective groin cover, designed to protect genitals from all impacts, including kicks averaging 115 pounds. Get one larger than you need. Spend regular periods with it NOT on, to make certain that air can move around the genitals. I used one just when I had phimosis and the pain caused by underwear/trousers pressure vanished, completely.

Thank you for sharing that! I just find it hard to differentiate between « normal » yellow stuff and infectious yellow stuff.

does the yellow stuff on urs have a bad smell ?

Well for one there’s not enough to allow me to pick it up with gauze or toilet paper to smell it, but as far as I can tell, no it does not. But the simple fact that the ER nurse thought it was infected made me scared.

"Normal wound discharge has no foul smell".

Hey! That yellow pus is part of the healing, a little bit will happen. Take it from a guy who is studying to be a nurse, most nurses don’t really know much that’s outside of their area, that’s why your nurse was concerned in the ER. All of this sounds perfectly normal. Just leave it alone, monitor it, and if it starts oozing and smelling then it’s a problem. :)

Idk about the ZSR method.... so I can’t really really say. Just that from the sound of it, the pus is regular pus and not purulent pus. But I’m not certain.

So a little update. The yellow stuff comes out after/during my sitz baths (the urology clinic instructed me to take three 15 minutes sitz baths a day in plain water until the wound heals). The baths seem to help draining whatever is in there. I have no redness, no fever, the bruises are fading, so I guess you guys are right. I did smell something off at one point during the night, but not today at all, and not any other day. We'll see how tonight goes. A massive thank you to all who have answered my post, the support is appreciated in these relatively trying times.

Hey man, I had my surgery last Friday and I'm on day 4 now. Today was the first day I could wear an underwear. I was told to keep a dressing on and wear tight underwear even to sleep. This morning I woke up with a really bad bruising and redness near the frenulum. I have been having really bad erections too. It really sucks. I was desperate and called the doc who said it should be fine, but I will still go to see him tomorrow for a check up. Need reassurance. Doctor also said to check the temperature of the wound with the top of my hand and to report if it's too hot. This recovery is not easy man, I wish you recover soon! Keep your hopes up!

It will smell, but the smell they are talking about is a very strong, disgusting smell. Yes, after showering or having it soak in water for sometime will have some of the pus come out. Totally natural. It’s just your body taking care of business. Sounds like you are healing up pretty well tho.

Also I read somewhere that a cold compress before going to bed can help you sleep through the night. I did it for the first time last night and finally slept through the entire night without any issues. It could be that I’m just healing up well, but I still think it helped.

I also did a cold compress for the first time last night and it helped a little.
