Hi Im looking for information on chemical Meningitis please?

cant say I have ever heard of it... have you tried the Meningitis Trust, they have heard of most things. Do you mean you developed it (or someone did) via an external source of a chemical introduced into the body?

I have heard that Meningitis can be triggered by chemicals ie that pass through the blood/brain barrier,but really dont know anything more than that.

I wonder whether you may have taken some street drugs which could cause an inflammation to your meninges, in that case I guess the answer is yes you could get a meningitis from a chemical source. Best check with a neurologist or someone who knows the affects drugs have on the brain. Dafoodil is right though, any drugs which pass throug the blood brain barrier can affect the brain and meninges.

Hi yes i have heard of chemical meningitis and yes there is such a thing! I have a condition called Arnold Chiari Type 1 where the brain descends into the spinal column like a hernia and i had corrective surgery in 2006. They had to enlarge the space at the base of my brain and to do this they surgically inserted a collagen stent to keep the space open. I became very ill after surgery with what they thought was chemical meningitis the cause being chemicals from the collagen stent however in my case and after months of illness it turned out to be TB meningitis. I hope this helps obviously this is just one example of what could cause chemical meningitis perhaps try talking to the Trust helpline for more information. good luck with your research.
