Evening all

Unfortunately suffered Bacterial Meningitis in 2014 and have suffered headaches,Struggled with speech and memory amongst other symptoms ever since.

The strange one is the symptoms seem to trigger more through the winter months and was wondering if anyone has the same issues

Hi, I am sorry to read that you are still suffering from the after-effects from meningitis.

For some people after-effects can be long-lasting. However, it is interesting to read that your symptoms seem worse during the winter months. It will be interested to see if anyone has experienced this.

In the meantime, if we can be of any support please do contact our nurse-led helpline: 0808 10 388 (UK) or by email: helpline@meningitisnow.org

Best wishes, Claire

Hello. I had bacterial meningitis just after Christmas along with a diagnosis of encephalitis, coma induced pneumonia and asymptomatic covid. I also had bacterial meningitis four years ago. I have been home for six weeks and apparently made a ‘miraculous recovery’ (both times). The ENt consultant I saw three weeks ago didn’t know about the previous episode snd was at a loss to know why I had got it again. I am down for an MRI next month. This time I don’t have headaches, am dizzy turning over in bed etc but really little else to complain about. My stay on the ward was hideous. I didn’t feel respected in any way. Partly due to pressure on beds partly that with no visitors and no access to a phone and no doctor seeing me on a regular basis I felt abandoned. I have always been mentally strong but now can’t get the way I was treated out of my mind. My hallucinations while in ICT are still incredibly vivid. One thing I should add apropos your earlier person saying he felt worse in the winter is that the hospital have put me on a trial of ten vitamin D drops each day (or possibly I may be taking a placebos) for three months as there is evidence to suggest this would help. I spend fifty percent of my time outside normally so find it hard to believe I would be low in Vit D but happy to try anything.

Hi mate and sorry to hear of this terrible illness that we have suffered.Regarding the Vitamin D scenario..I work outside in the building trade so have my full share of vitamin intake but an interesting theory.

In a way I thank my lucky stars that I just have pressure build ups considering what could have unfolded.Never the less it is a delibating non the less.

I hope you in time become free of this terrible illness that we have suffered

Hi, I had it when i was a child and still suffer with headaches 40+ years later. They have lessened over time and I only get them about once a week now to varying degrees of strength. I tend to treat them like a migraine and shut myself away in a dark room and listen to some quiet relaxing music whilst laying on a cold floor. I thankfully have no memory of having it as i have no memories from before the age of about 10. I had to learn to walk and talk again, But as I was not expected to survive it's a small price to pay. I am the opposite of you in the fact that my headaches get worse in the summer and that i really do not like being out in the sun as it also causes problems with my eye's.I also have major difficulties with memory and names and faces, in my last job i had for 13 yrs there were still people that i worked with who i wouldn't recognise and who's name i could not remember even after 13yrs.
