I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who posts on this board. Everyone’s posts helped me through my VM recovery.
I was diagnosed with VM in late October 2018. And I didn’t go back to work (teacher) for a month. I was in the hospital for 9 days. And for three weeks I had postural headaches that made me immediately want to vomit when I was not laying flat in my back. I love lifting weights and couldn’t squat 1/3 of my pre sickness weight without feeling like I was going to fall over for 5 additional months. And my memory is still NOT the same it once was.
The only thing that kept me going was the belief that it was going to get better with time. And this board was a huge part of that. To anyone that is suffering and doesn’t feel like it is getting better, it will. It takes time unfortunately and everyone is different. Figure out what helps you get through the day, through the week, through the month, and stick with it, even blindingly— whatever helps you get through it.
You will get better. And in the case of VM, it may feel worse before it feels better.
I’m still not 100%. My experience with VM changed my mindset and how I live my life. Once again, though, thank you to every one who has posted on this site. Your words made a difference.

Yes these posts are so helpful for all of us especially because so few people have gone through meningitis that the people in our lives, including most doctors, don’t seem to understand how impactful the lasting effects are. Glad you are getting stronger and feeling better. Totally agree with the memory issues. I still have major issues doing more than one thing at a time and having set backs. Good luck to all here!
Thanks for sharing your journey - whilst you may not be 100%, it’s great to hear you are well (and have changed your life and mindset). I am 8 weeks post treatment (VZ VM) and still coming to grips with the mental side of it... currently working 3 days/week and wanting to do more but fallen in a heap this week. Thanks for the reassurance i will get better. 👍
