Acute urinary retention post viral meningitis

Hi,

I was hospitalized for 2 weeks in February 2019 for Viral Meningitis. I developed urinary retention in the hospital and a Foley catheter was placed to keep my bladder drained. I was discharged with the catheter and it was removed on March 6th (5 weeks after originally placed) but I was still unable to void urine. I have developed a UTI and kidney infection from it; antibiotics cleared it up. It's now been 7 weeks...I am on tamsulosin (beta blocker) for 2 weeks now. I have read this is an uncommon side effect of Meningitis, so I'm curious to know if anyone else has experienced this and what yout prognosis was if so?

I had urinary retention both times that I had what has turned out to be aseptic meningitis. It began at the same time as the headache and lasted a couple of weeks after I was discharged from the hospital. The urologist prescribed Flomax both times, which helped, but it seems as if the nerves in your neck (c1vertebrae) compress and cause the retention. Cranio-sacral massage helped, as did the medication.

oh wow ok I hope this can help you ... I had a urinary tract infection, and they gave me anti biotics to clear it up, 6 months later I got another one having only every had one in my life after the birth of my last child it was new to me, but I really didn't want to go onto another dose of anti biotics so I googled it.... natural remedays for urinary tract infection WOW an hour after I got and the pain was so dam bad I took a dose of the mixture I found in natural remedys you wont believe it ....Himalyan pink salt !!!! take a dose of water / fluid with a teaspoon of the salt and it worked within an hour after taking it, fantastic ive told others also about it, I just couldn't believe the relief I got so quickly so let me know how you go goodluck with it
