Yes, some of us do get photophobia, light sensitivity. I wear sunglasses when outside also at night when I am a passenger in a car as headlights are also bothersome. Patterns and certain noises can also be irritating as well. Giving us lightheadedness, confusion, and anxiety. He has a new normalcy just be supportive.

Yes, my daughter is sensitive to light now. It’s 2 years since she had Bacterial meningitis and septicaemia. I hope your son has a good and speedy recovery, it’s such a worrying time.

Yes this is normal, I too had bacterial meningitis, February 2018, and I suffered like most with light sensitive. It will take time for his eyes to recover , I have to still wear sunglasses when it’s very bright and turn some lights down or off.

He’s been through a lot and it just takes time, please don’t rush and don’t do too much. I wish him all the best.

I would presume this is a normal aftereffect. The best way I can think of to describe meningitus is like severe dehydration. The headaches when you have meningitus is due to the membranes (or "meninges") that surround your brian swelling and putting pressure on your skull. This area is linked heavily to your eyes - putting pressure on your skull, is going to most likely put pressure in that area too. This could make you hypersensitive to light; and afterall it is a symptom of the disease itself. It could be also just general wear n tear - after bm the brian has gone through a lot ! . Drinking lots of water will help to start your brian back on its recovery trip.

I had this problem - I had viral meningitus and the main side effect I had post was insane headaches and hypersensitivity. I was pushed from GP to neurologists and ended up in hospital admitted multiple times. I got lucky when a rheumatologist was passing when I was admitted one day and diagnosed me with fibromyalgia. I say lucky because treating for that helped make my headaches managable. Does he have other symptoms to light sensitivity? Such as headaches? Muscle aches? If so, I'd really recommend reading up on fibromyalgia (or feel free to message me - just didn't want to spam your post with a lengthy reply!) and asking your GP to formally test and diagnose for it. Drug wise I'd advise sticking to anti-inflammatories such as ibrupofen. I'm not sure on the age of your son though, and I really do not know enough about drugs and ages :(
