My stepdad has been hospitalized/specialized nursing facilities since February with bacterial meningitis. The cultures come back that he no longer has the meningitis, but he still cannot swallow, has a feeding tube, and a trach. The respiratory issues seem to be caused by excessive mucus that won’t go away. He’s in his 70s and used to be very healthy and active. Is this similar to anyone’s story? Any suggestions?

Hi! My dad has been in the hospital for 2.5 weeks they just put the trach and peg tube In yesterday. He has been sedated and when coming off isn’t doing much. Now that he has the trach the plan is to take off all sedation to assess neurological status, how is your dad with his neuro status?
