Question for people who have had VM ....It has been 3 years since my last bout of VM. I had it 3 years before that also. As you can imagine I'm scared to death it is going to come knocking again. I still have symptoms off and on after my last illness including neck pain dizziness nausea headaches etc. my question is does anyone else post VM have times where they r in a fog. It feels like I'm in a dark fog when I'm at my worst. It is almost trance like or as if I'm drugged with something. Please let me know if this is a common symptom. Family friends and doctors have no idea what I'm talking about. 😩

Hi peechesgirl, i am living in Japan currently and idk if it hepls but i do have same symptoms. I had a severe meningococcal meningitis about 8 months ago and have the brain symptoms as you have mentioned every day. No one understands me as well:( and all the doctor told me is that use your brain and wait for time to heal but it is not making it better tbh... its a super weird, uncomfortable, crazy feeling to feel foggy and as hangover every sigle day. Its like only half of me is consciously here. The only solution i could come up with is to accept what is, my current situation and focus on things that make me feel fun as working out, watching funny stuff etc. Hope we both get better soon and recover fully our conscious:)

Thank you for your reply Myu-mk. Yes it is something that takes life adjustments. Mine comes in waves now and lasts a week or so at a time then I may have some good days. So if it's any encouragement your brain my clear up once you are further along in your recovery. It helps a lot to know other people share these symptoms. I just wish doctors knew more about how to treat it or just believe that these symptoms are not made up! When I am in this dark fog half conscious state I can't bring myself to work out either which I know is so good for you. I'm just so completely exhausted I just want to sleep. I hope your head starts to clear up more and more!

Hello, You can find my 28 year old daughter, Rosie S' Story, via the link on the forum stories from the home page.

We found that cranial massage worked wonders for her. Her job is working with horses on pretty much a daily basis and is very physically demanding.

It is rare for a story to be so positive and we have tried to let people know that this amazing complementary therapy worked for her. It helps release the spinal fluid which VM leaves a blockage for. Rosie is pretty much cured after around 10 sessions coupled with actupuncture, although found awesome relief after only one appointment. She is now free of all pain killers and antidepressants and feels right back to her old self.

We can only let you know what worked for her. It's not for all, but has now given amazing relief for many. It seems the success could be to do with the skill of the cranial osteopath you use. So it is important to find out the osteopaths credentials and experience in this specialised field particularly dealing with VM sufferers, if you can. (Not all osteopaths realise that this helps VM sufferers, it is often carried out on young babies with birthing problems). You need an osteopath and not a therapist who mearly has some training in cranial massage.

If you find you are getting the violent headaches and feeling lethargic and depressed after a few weeks, give this complementary therapy a go, it really could be worth it and save you being on prescribed drugs, along with months, years, of unnecessary suffering.

Kind wishes and best of luck

I promise I understand what you all are going through. I've been there with the brain fog, pain, headaches, inability to concentrate - everything. No one understood. Nothing helped. Many people have never even heard of Molleret's meningitis, but I'm living through it. PLEASE make an appointment with Brian Tuckey at Tuckey and Associate's Physical Therapy in Frederick, Maryland. I am a completely different person since having three appointments with him. I suffered for 9 months before being referred to him, but not anymore. I had sunk into depression and felt I had little quality of life left. It was horrible. This is NOT regular physical therapy! This is counter strain for brain injuries (like meningitis) and people come from other countries to see Brian. He is super nice and understanding, and it is $160/hour to see him IF you have no insurance. I wish you all the very best.
