Infectious specialist said just bad luck. Gave me what he called antibiotics to take. When I questioned why antibiotics for viral infection he said in case we missed anything. They turned out to be antiviral meds. He also said fill the prescription if you want take them if you want. They probably won't do anything. My Gp wasn't clear if I had vm or not. I had to show her hospital release form. No talk of what to expect and as symptoms continued her solution was anti anxiety and anti depression meds. Am now 11 monthe post and am much worse. Have developed extreme sound sensitivity and brain shivers.

I was told by the staff who treated me, I would be better in 7 to 10 days after viral meningitis...A few months later I went to see an ENT specialist as I had terrible tinnitus as one of the many horrible after effects, and he told me it would be more like 18 months to two years before I felt normal again. He was right.....Now, 2 whole years later, I am better but not clever and quick witted like I used to be...The only advice I was given about self help/recovery was from a nurse who spoke on the phone with me from the organisation 'meningitis now', who I rung in desperation, as my GP was clueless, like most doctors seem to be.
