I contracted it for 1st time in 1993 even doctors new very little about it esp as I didn't get a rash with my strain took till I was critical and heart was threatening to stop and I was on life support, that thankfully I seen a doctor who just happened to of seen a case before, unfortunately I have had reoccuring bouts since my last coma been in 2008 but the difference to awareness is huge, the first time I had it no body new how to handle it how to giva aftercare nothing, thankfully mom some how managed to get in touch with the meningitis trust they sent me a book which helped me understand my treatment and the symptoms I could relate to, they explained things to my parents and 1s I was out of hosp and back in my home city they offered us a support which was amazing, the trust has done an amazing job and also are an amazing charity they have helped me in a variety of ways through each bout and I honestly don't know what I would of done without them. They are all amazing <3

Back in 1980 I was told by the doctor at the hospital that my GP was probably the only GP in Wales that could recognise the disease.

In March 2009 my daughter aged 17 got meningitis she was a fit out going young lady. The night before she was up and down needing drinks, but thought nothing of it, that morning i woke her as usual for college, she walked there the sun was shining. Later that day i got a text off her saying she had a migraine, so picked her up and brought home. Her dad suffers migraines so just thought she must have the same and had just started wearing glasses. She said she was going lie down, came downstairs a couple of times was sick, then went back to bed. I checked on her about a hour later she was unable to be woken just making strange noises, i rung an ambulance. Whilst in ambulance they noticed a little blotch on her belly by the time we reached the hospital she was covered in the rash, put into intensive care on sedated on life support. That night Dannielle was pronounced brain dead. I didn't know that much about Meningitis its something you think straight away with a young child.
