Hi all. Is a meningioma a brain lesion??

I was told over the phone that I have a meningioma, but my letter stated I hade a lesion adjacent to the right hemisphere of the brain, which 'might' be a meningioma. I am awaiting another brain scan, with contrast, but been told nothing more, so am totally in the dark and really rather scared. :-(

I was in a similar situation with my diagnosis: it was right before Labor Day, I heard the word "brain tumor", and my whole world shook. When I look back 20 years, I think how may ways having a meningioma has changed my life: this one is in a spot that is inoperable. But as you have probably learned, there are many options: I always chose least invasive, tho I did go with FSR.

But this will be your journey, and it may not lead to as many bad things as those two words bring to mind. For me, this has not been easy, but I am still me, and it sure has not been as awful as it looked those first days.

I wish you all the best.

I have one and have done some research. It is not really a brain tumor, but a tumor on the meninges, the membrane covering the brain. A tumor is defined as "a space-occupying lesion." Fortunately for me, mine has never caused any symptoms but was discovered by accident when I had CT scan after a seizure (have been told that the meningioma could not possibly have caused the seizure). Repeat CT scans have determined that it is not growing, and no other tests or treatment are necessary at this time. It is completely calcified and has probably been there for 50 years!

Yes, a meningioma brain or spinal tumour is sometimes called a lesion.

Most meningiomas are slow-growing so it's encouraging news that it's this type of tumour. The second MRI scan will provide your doctor with more information on the possible 2nd tumour. I'll gladly send you information by email or post but I need your contact details as I don't have either your name or address.

You can email me <ellapybus@meningiomauk.org> or tel 01787 374 084

Kind Regards
