Meningioma and IVF

Would love to hear from anyone who has been through IVF with an inoperable meningioma. There is some debate between consultants about how the high dose of hormones could encourage growth in my (so far) dormant meningioma. It’s close to my optic nerve, so causes severe migraines and blurred vision when it’s misbehaving. Essentially I’ve been told it’s my decision as to whether to go ahead with IVF (at my own risk) and as you can imagine, that’s quite scary…

I had IVF treatment before I discovered I had an inoperable meningioma close to my optic nerve too. Unlike yourself I do not thankfully suffer with migraines or blurred vision. Sorry you have these symptoms. I was told by my own Endocrinologist if I still wanted to do another round of IVF to go-ahead, he didn't dispute not doing it. Once Endocrinologist gave the unofficial go-ahead the IVF Specialists seemed happy. I decided not to go ahead with another round of IVF not due to meningioma but due to my age and other reasons non tumour related. My own GP brooched a very good question. Like the chicken and egg scenario. Was the tumour there before I started IVF or not. And if oestrogen or pregnancy hormones have a role to play in growth of tumours??? It's a case of what you want really. A baby with a low risk of tumour growth or a bigger growth that could cause issue. It's a hard one to call. Experts best sought. If you have had no increase in size for a number or years....would it be deemed stable?? Seek all the professional advice you can I reckon. I did. Best wishes.

hi! I have an inoperable m, posterior fossa, and I underwent ivf to conceive my son , now 17. I asked NS if ivf treatment had had any influence on my m as I’d read they were hormone related- he said no! X
