Hi everyone hope ur all ok? I’m new here

Just wanted to know, now that my daughter has been diagnosed with learning disability do I get any extra support financially as atm from dla I am getting middle rate for care due to her sleeping tablets and low rate for mobility due to her age & not aware of danger.

Other than that the support worker is putting in an assessment for respite break as we’re having difficulties just managing her on our own her father and me & not having any support from family.

But the most difficult part is managing her and the house work while she’s at home or during the holidays, do you know where I could get support for that would be really helpful, because as soon as I’m cleaning or in the kitchen cooking she just disappears off finding anything to eat or to harm herself as even if she hurts herself she doesn’t feel the pain and enjoys playing with her blood.

Thank you any suggestions would be helpful

Hi speak to your children’s social services as they have a team who look after those with a learning g disability also there is the carers association they can support your family as well and there are organisations that can help with funding to support your family and there are organisations thAt support those with a Learning disability in the community regarding clubs and respite in school holidays also speak to your local council as they will have information regarding all this and you can get discounts for leisure facilities etc etc and a disability grant if you need adaptations to your house council or private. There are lots of things out there it’s know I got where to find this information and you learn such a lot from other parents with a child with LD and disabilities. You can get free pads from a certain age as well depending on what your child’s needs are. You can ask for a reassessment of your benefits once you have all the I formation but always remember it’s not what they have that counts it’s how their lives and hours are affected by it generally speaking. I do hope this helps good luck.

Thank you my son is now 28 and in care but I will never forget those hard difficult years but you learn so much from other parents so if you can cope with meeting other parents do as you won’t feel so alone and you may finds some friends out of it for you and your little girl as well.

Aww bless, I agree I guess I didn’t take much notice if this because she was small & hoped she would improve with time but instead she started worse & found out was due to learning disability.

I am starting to understand as she’s growing mentally and psychically it’s hard on me and should start attending groups & mix up like u said, I can get more knowledge & can find out different techniques that other parents have found easy for their child & could try it out as well

aww yeah would be so nice for us. Thank u 🙃
