Hi. I am parent carer and I am feeling very alone and tired at the moment. It would be great to hear from other parents and families (and anyone else) about how they cope. Thanks

Hi Frumpyfish

Thank you for your post, I’m really sorry to hear you’re feeling alone.

This new community is the perfect place to chat to people whose home situations are similar to yours, so hopefully someone will be able to share their experiences with you and help you to feel less alone.

If you feel able, why not share a little bit about you - it might help someone come forward. Who do you care for? Do you get any support?

All the best,

Sarah

Hello. Do you meet up with any other parents? Where I live there is a really good carers group just for parents. I find it really helps to talk to them and let off steam. We are all navigating through a similar set of problems and frustrations so we can be very honest. I hope this helps a little.

Hi, I know how you feel as I’ve been in that position myself. I agree with crazysquirrel about seeking out carers support groups. Look on line to see if there is a Carers Centre in your area, they’ll be able to tell you where your local group meets. I found my local group a lifeline at a time when I felt at rock bottom and I’ve made some very good friends. We may not be able to solve some problems but just being able to talk to other people, share experiences and ideas can be invaluable. Where I live there are several different Carers groups eg. Caring for someone with dementia, caring for children with learning disabilities, former Carers, male carers etc. Some groups are held in the centre and others at different venues in the borough. It took me ages to pluck up the courage to actually turn up at my local group but once I did I met 2 other people whose sons both attended the same day centre as my son and another parent whose husband went to the same school and was in the same class as my husband. Also check out Carers Uk on line, you may find some useful information on there too. Best wishes xx

Hi Frumpyfish - let off some steam here and tell us a bit more about what's been happening at the moment? Or is it just the day to day everything-ness of it all...? I hear you x

I echo crazysquirrel - it's great to meet others in similar circumstances in person too.

Keep posting on here - you're not alone, and we're here for you x

Hello 👋🏻. I’m sorry to hear that. I too suffer from feelings of isolation but I do find comfort on online forums such as this. Nice to “meet” you 🤗
